The New Jersey Symphony Chamber Players

(SHORT HILLS, NJ) -- Greenwood Gardens is thrilled to announce its upcoming Music in the Garden Concert Series. With performances in May, July, and September, the program is composed of outdoor concerts featuring jazz and classical music, as well as the Great American Songbook, set in an enchanted garden setting. Stone Mountain Properties of Short Hills is sponsoring the Series for the fourth year.

“We are excited to be able to offer high quality musical programming in the garden that, due to popular demand, routinely sells out. We are grateful for the generous support of returning sponsor Stone Mountain Properties, the Short Hills-based property management company, and the Birney family,” said Abby O’Neill, Executive Director.

Four concerts are featured in The Music in the Garden Series which kicks off on May 23 (rain date – May 24) with The Three Generations of Jazz Quintet. Under the direction of multi-award-winning jazz pianist Leonieke Scheuble, this all-star group will leave you swinging in your seats!

Mari Green

On July 25 (rain date – July 26), the multi-talented Mari Green takes the stage with a special performance of some of the most iconic songs from the great American songbook, made popular by legendary crooner Frank Sinatra.

The third concert is slated for September 5 (rain date- September 6) when lovers of classical music will be swept away by The New Jersey Symphony Chamber Players. This classical quartet will present “Ladies First,” a musical program featuring the work of women who composed over the course of history, from the 1500’s to today.

The fourth concert on September 26 (rain date – September 27) features the accomplished Lance Bryant Quintet. Attendees will experience the full sound of the group’s mix of saxophone, trumpet, piano, bass, and drums performing a mix of jazz classics and original pieces in this lively performance.

For each concert, the gates will open at 5:30pm, when visitors are invited to stroll through the garden before the concert begins at 6:30pm. Complimentary wine and cheese will be served starting at 6:00pm on the West Terrace.

“Sponsoring the Music in the Garden Concert Series at Greenwood is deeply meaningful to our company and to our family. Since the inception, we have dedicated the Series to my late mother, Leeshan Birney, who founded Stone Mountain Properties in 1981, my late sister, Mayling Birney, who was a professor at the London School of Economics and Political Science, and my late wife, Cynthia Samson-Birney, an executive with Stone Mountain. They each loved and appreciated nature and the arts, and this is a way to appropriately honor them,” said Ceyan Birney, owner and President of Stone Mountain Properties in Short Hills.

“The garden provides the perfect backdrop for these talented musicians. Tickets sell out quickly, so be sure to register early,” added Ms. O’Neill.

Tickets to all four events must be purchased in advance and are available at greenwoodgardens.org.

The Music in the Garden Concert Series is part of a broad-based lineup that includes more than 50 programs, tours, and events at Greenwood. The full list of programs, with links to register, is available at greenwoodgardens.org.
