The Wag's Christmas Spectacular is Coming to The Strand and Middletown Arts Center

originally published: 11/27/2024

One of our favorite bands here at New Jersey Stage is The Wag. If you want a guaranteed fun rock and roll concert, see one of their shows. And if you're a fan of holiday music, there's nothing better than The Wag's Christmas Spectacular - it's something like a good old fashioned holiday special played out live on stage.

Steeped in the traditions of holiday TV shows of the past, The Wag brings back the memories of these specials, while putting their own unique stamp upon them.

Their show has all of the holiday songs that you know and love, plus dance numbers, costume changes, and comedy sketches, along with some fun surprises – including a few original Christmas/Holiday songs! The Wag’s sense of humor and their homemade props and costumes are worth the price of admission alone.

The show also features a running theme of “Christmas Around the World”. There will be holiday songs and sketches from Ireland, Germany, Spain, & more! The Wag’s Christmas Spectacular is sure to please the entire family.

The Wag has two Christmas Spectacular shows set for this year - The Strand Theater on Saturday, December 14th and one that serves as a benefit for the Monmouth County SPCA at Middletown Arts Center on Saturday, December 21st.

Strand Theater (400 Clifton Avenue, Lakewood, NJ) on Saturday, December 14 at 7:00pm. Tickets range from $15-20 and available for purchase online.

Middletown Arts Center (36 Church Street in Middletown, NJ) on Saturday, December 21 at 7:00pm. Tickets are $15 and available for purchase online.  All profits at this show will be donated to The Monmouth County SPCA.

The Wag is a 4-piece band that has a sound often reminiscent of the British Invasion bands of the 1960s.  Hailing from the Bayshore area of New Jersey, this 4-piece unit has been entertaining and moving audiences for over 25 years but still sounds as fresh as it did on day one.  With 4 alternating lead vocalists, catchy melodies, and sophisticated harmonies, they will take you on a journey of pop/rock.

The band consists of Brian Ostering (Bass and vocals); Alicia Van Sant (Keyboards, vocals, percussion, some flute, occasional guitar); Don Lee (Guitar and vocals); and Joshua Van Ness (Drums, percussion, guitar and vocals).

If you've never seen them live, these shows are a great place to start.
