Harmonium Choral Society Announces 2024-2025 Concert Season

(MORRISTOWN, NJ) -- Harmonium Choral Society welcomes you to their 46th year of cutting-edge choral performances.  Artistic Director Dr. Anne Matlack has planned an exciting season. “We are celebrating the creative spirit in fresh works, old gems, and new collaborations in the community. I am inspired to balance old favorites of the choral canon with inspired new works by contemporary composers”.

2024-2025 Concert Season Schedule

SNOW ANGEL on DECEMBER 7 & 8, 2024 - Experience rebirth and beauty through the eyes of children, under the watchful gaze of angels, in Sarah Quartel’s evocative Snow Angel, for chorus, cello and djembe.  With East Coast premiere of Joe Gregorio’s Unbound Angels and gems by Bruckner, Buxtehude, Hailstork and Rossi. Performances take place at the Presbyterian Church in Morristown. Saturday, December 7 at 7:30pm & Sunday, December 8 at 3:00pm.  

SING ME TO HEAVEN on  MARCH 1 & 2, 2025 - Comforting and uplifting reflections on life’s end, featuring Eleanor Daley’s exquisite Requiem and works by Heinrich Schütz, Dave Matthews, and Caldwell and Ivory’s Ain’t No Grave.  Performances take place at Morristown United Methodist Church, Saturday, March 1 at 7:30pm & Sunday, March 2 at 3:00pm.

ON MY JOURNEY on MAY 3 & 4, 2025 - The select Chamber Singers traverse stages of life and musical eras through the music of William Byrd, Herbert Howells, Abbie Betinis and others. Performances take place at Grace Episcopal Church, Madison, Saturday, May 3 at 7:30pm & Sunday, May 4 at 3:00pm.

DREAMERS on JUNE  7 & 8, 2025 - Melissa Dunphy inspires us to hope, empathy, and action in American DREAMers, honoring five young Americans brought to this country as children. Premiere of the 28th High School Choral Composition Contest winner and works by Saunder Choi and  Elizabeth Alexander.  The concert will be presented in partnership with Literacy Volunteers of Morris County and Wind of the Spirit Immigration Resource Center of NJ. Performances take place at the Morristown United Methodist Church, Saturday, June 7 at 7:30pm & Sunday, June 8 at 3:00pm.

BEER CHOIR Glenbrook Brewery on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at 7:00pm, Morristown - If you like beer, and you like to sing, you’ll love Beer Choir. NEW location, games and food this year. Homemade food for purchase by Morristown’s favorite, Verrilli’s - Brats, Bavarian pretzels, potato pancakes and their famous Spudnuts (potato donuts with yummy toppings) and non-alcoholic drinks. HALLOWEEN CONCERT Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 7:00pm, Grace Episcopal Church, Madison.  It’s back! The family friendly bi-annual Halloween Concert presented by Harmonium Choral Society and Grace Community Music.  Admission is a freewill donation at the door to help defray costs. Please also bring a non-perishable food donation if you can.  The concert is appropriate for ages 3 and up, and costumes are welcome. Reception follows.

One of New Jersey's leading choral arts organizations, the 100-voice chorus is directed by Dr. Anne Matlack and based in Morris County. Harmonium is widely recognized for its eclectic programming, choral excellence, and community spirit. To advance the choral arts, Harmonium has commissioned new works and has sponsored a high school composition contest for over twenty-seven years. A subset of the chorus performs in schools and senior living facilities.
