(JERSEY CITY, NJ) -- The Nimbus Arts Center, Jersey City's renowned multi-disciplinary arts institution, and Bridge Art Gallery, a mainstay of contemporary visual art in Hudson County and in the mid-Atlantic region, have announced a partnership which will present bi-monthly exhibitions featuring a diverse array of Jersey City and national artists.

The exhibitions will showcase groundbreaking contemporary art and provide a platform for artists to engage with the community. Leveraging the Nimbus Arts Center’s reach and reputation for artistic innovation and excellence as well as its formidable physical space, and building on Bridge Art Gallery’s eight year history of exhibiting both nationally renowned as well as emerging artists, the venture will immediately provide a dynamic new forum for the visual arts in Jersey City.

A New Era of Artistic Collaboration

The new partnership will launch with a robust schedule of Fall programming. In September, the gallery opens Verses from the Abstraction, an immersive art exhibition that transcends traditional boundaries, inviting viewers on a poetic journey through the realms of abstract expressionism. This exhibition will feature the works of Anthony Boone, Salim, Heather Williams, Gabriel D’Elia, Leandro Comrie and Bryant Small.

Patrons view exhibition at the Firmament Gallery at Nimbus Arts Center with presenting partner Bridge Art Gallery.

Verses from the Abstraction opens on Friday, September 13th, at the Nimbus Arts Center and will be on view until Sunday, September 29th. There will be an Opening Reception on Friday, September 13th, 2024 from 6:30pm-9:00pm. Click here to RSVP for the opening.

In October, Bridge Art Gallery brings back the successful Garden Renaissance, a showcase of New Jersey-based artists, with special focus on works that emphasize community engagement, social change, and collaborative art practices within New Jersey. Additional upcoming exhibitions include the January opening of Expressive Creative Soul Arts featuring the Women’s Live Artist Studio (WLAS), a Chicago based arts collective. Expressive Creative Soul is an annual exhibition produced by the Bridge Art Gallery that showcases emerging and established black artists. First held in 2016, the January exhibition celebrates the 11th edition of Expressive Creative Soul.

In early 2025, Nimbus Dance and Bridge Art Gallery will release an open call for art submissions for a multi-disciplinary project featuring choreography by Nimbus, multiple works of art, and an oral history component led by author Helene Stapinski. The culminating project, exploring and documenting perspectives on the past, the present and the future, through the eyes of residents of Jersey City, will premiere as both a visual arts exhibition and also live performance experience during Nimbus Dance’s spring season.

Educational Outreach, Workshops and Community Engagement

Through the new partnership, the Nimbus Arts Center and the Bridge Art Gallery envision immersive ways for the local community to engage with art. Aiming to promote deeper understanding and appreciation of the arts, the partnership features community events throughout the year, including art openings, artist talks, and a range of educational workshops and lectures directed towards artists, students, and community members, all open to the public.

“We are thrilled to partner with the Nimbus Arts Center,” said Cheryl Mack, Co-Founder of Bridge Art Gallery. “This partnership represents a significant opportunity to enhance our support for artists and to engage with the wider community in new and exciting ways.” Samuel Pott, Founder and Artistic Director of the Nimbus Arts Center, added, “We are inspired by the possibilities that emerge through drawing together new approaches to art-making and diverse viewpoints. Joining forces with the Bridge Art Gallery will expand the Arts Center’s artistic offerings and open up new and innovative new ways of seeing and engaging with the arts.”

Opened in 2020, the Nimbus Arts Center at the Lively is a 14,900 sq. ft. multi-arts facility which houses Nimbus Dance, New Jersey’s leading contemporary dance company, the School of Nimbus, and multiple resident partner arts groups. One of the most significant investments in the arts in Jersey City history, the comprehensive arts center includes a 150-seat black box theater, 4 dance studios, art gallery, event space, and administrative offices.
