(NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- State Theatre New Jersey presents Harry Chapin's Greatest Stories LIVE featuring The Chapin Family on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at 8:00pm. Watch as two generations of the musical Chapin Family—Tom, Steve, and Jen Chapin, and The Chapin Sisters (Abigail and Lily) bring the songs of Harry Chapin to life.

Backed by The Harry Chapin Band (including Big John Wallace and Howard Fields), the Family will perform Harry’s classic songs, including “Cat’s in The Cradle,” “Taxi,” “Mr. Tanner,” “Mail Order Annie,” "W•O•L•D," "Circle," and more.

Harry Chapin (1942-1981) was one of our most passionate, political, prolific, and inspiring songwriters. This Long Island icon has reached a milestone birthday—his 80th—and his family feels a celebration is in order!

In the long rich history of Family Groups in American Roots Music, The Chapin Family has a special place. When these singers, songwriters, and extraordinary live performers come together, magic happens. Tom Chapin, Steve Chapin, Jen Chapin, and The Chapin Sisters (Abigail Chapin and Lily Chapin) are all award-winning musical artists with active careers and multiple recordings, who just happen to be related, and who love making music together.

Tickets range from $34-$89 and are available for purchase online or by calling State Theatre Guest Services at 732-246-SHOW (7469). State Theatre Guest Services, located at 15 Livingston Ave, New Brunswick NJ, is open by phone and email only, Tuesday through Friday from 11:00am to 5:00pm. Food Drive - In Harry Chapin’s honor, State Theatre is working in partnership with REPLENISH to host a Food Drive. You can help when you come to see Harry Chapin’s Greatest Stories Live featuring The Chapin Family by bringing in canned and packages only (low sodium and low sugar option preferred) such as canned meats, macaroni & cheese, vegetables, dry beans, fruits, stew, cereal, rice, pasta, and granola bars. During his life, Harry Chapin was committed to fighting hunger and The Chapin family continues to make hunger a priority.

After major renovations, State Theatre New Jersey celebrated its 100th Anniversary in December 2021 in a fully renovated theater including newly renovated lobbies, all new restrooms, upgraded HVAC systems, a new elevator for access to all levels, and brand-new theater seats. Originally built as a silent film and vaudeville palace, State Theatre’s historic significance was honored by PBS by featuring it in its documentary series, Treasures of New Jersey, in the fall of 2018. “Treasures of New Jersey: State Theatre New Jersey” can be streamed online.

Today, State Theatre is the largest performing arts center in Central New Jersey and has welcomed more than six million people through its doors since reopening as a nonprofit performing arts center in 1988. State Theatre New Jersey is a cornerstone of the cultural vitality of Middlesex County and averages a total economic impact on New Brunswick and the surrounding area of more than $18 million a year. The mainstage programs have featured high-caliber artists such as Diana Ross, Tom Jones, Kevin Hart, Ringo Starr, Melissa Etheridge, John Leguizamo, Harry Connick, Jr., Diana Krall, and Crosby, Stills & Nash. Program offerings include Broadway, orchestra, family, dance, comedy, rock/pop, jazz, Performances for Schools, and Sensory-Friendly Performances.
