(RAHWAY, NJ) -- The City of Rahway issued a call to local and regional artists working in the realm of public art. This call for artists' qualifications is a vital next step to support the City's ongoing efforts to invest in public art projects and the City's beautification.

Artists selected for the Pre-qualified Artist List will be eligible for consideration for upcoming public art projects in Rahway. Projects may include but are not limited to, wall murals, asphalt art, sculpture installations, interactive art installations, image projection/digital art installations, and other visual art forms.

The deadline for submissions is May 15, 2024. For the full call for submissions and to apply, please click here.

Artists are asked to carefully review the eligibility criteria and application guidelines. Only entries submitted electronically through the CallforEntry.org website will be considered. Mailed and in-person submissions will not be accepted. Questions may be directed to [email protected].

All submissions will be reviewed by the City of Rahway’s Arts Committee. Artists will be notified of the Committee's decision by early July 2024. Pre-qualified artists will remain on the list through December 2026. Inclusion in the list does not guarantee a commission.

Just last year, the City installed three new public art murals. The first mural, completed in August 2023 was an abstract geometric design that features the artist, DOT’s, signature patterning and creates visual distortion when the viewer is in motion. The other two murals were dedicated to some of the native creatures that call Rahway home. The first mural on Cherry Street was completed by artist Key Detail and depicts aquatic species native to the Rahway River. Another, featuring native perennial flowers was created in Rahway's arts district by Emilio Florentine in November 2023.

“The City of Rahway has made significant investments in public art and placemaking in the past year,” said Administrator of Cultural and Heritage Affairs, Rachael Faillace. “We look forward to continuing to build lasting relationships with local arts as we enhance the already vibrant cultural identity of the city we call home.”

The City of Rahway, located in Union County, New Jersey, is a vibrant and diverse community known for its rich history, growing arts scene, thriving local business economy, and progressive outlook on the future. The City of Rahway strives to provide its residents and visitors with a welcoming environment that promotes equality, inclusivity, and a strong sense of community.
