Screening of "Ball & Vase" to Take Place at Hoboken Historical Museum

originally published: 11/23/2023

(HOBOKEN, NJ) -- The Thomas Edison Film Festival and Hoboken Historical Museum will host a free screening of the film Ball & Vase. This special event will take place on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 6:00pm at the museum, located at 1301 Hudson Street. The program will feature a talk with the director of the film, David Baram.

Ball & Vase follows the story of an ailing professor and magician Ed Coleman. He is 92 years old, widowed, a World War II veteran and living alone in a small apartment in Hoboken, NJ. He has been all but forgotten. Ed does have one thing that keeps him going—an upcoming visit by his grandson on Christmas. But a change of plans leaves Ed with one last opportunity to reconnect with the world.

Ball & Vase was filmed in Hoboken and includes scenes from Moran's, All Saints Episcopal Parish, Hudson Street, and our stunning waterfront. Ball & Vase will be premiering on PBS/Thirteen on December 14 and has over 15 Best Film Awards. It has been picked by Hollywood Reporter and Variety in their top 10 shorts for an Oscar Nomination.

Anyone who attends the Ball & Vase screening will be able to get a free beer at Moran's after the screening by showing their film ticket!

The Hoboken Historical Museum (est. 1986) collects and displays artifacts in themed exhibitions on Hoboken history and offers educational programs, lectures, tours and hosts films and plays. We are a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.

Recent exhibits have included a focus on Hoboken’s relationship with the Hudson River and its role as a sweets producer. Other exhibits included shipping history, an anniversary of the movie “On the Waterfront,” the city’s contributions to the world of music, and its struggle and revival through the 1970s. Our upper gallery space features six local artists’ work per year.

They are open six days a week in a 2,000-square-foot space in one of the oldest buildings on Hoboken’s waterfront, the former Bethlehem Steel machine shop, now known as the Shipyard.

The museum also publish books and walking-tour maps, as well as a series of oral history chapbooks documenting the diverse communities of Hoboken’s recent past. Each exhibit offers a tailored curriculum for local schools and groups of youngsters.
