originally published: 11/12/2023

(LAKE COMO, NJ) -- Salty's Beach Bar presents a 40th anniversary celebration of the music of Valley Girl on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at 7:00pm.  The show features performances by Josie Cotton, The Plimsouls, and an opening acoustic set by Kurt Baker of The Leftovers.

Tickets are $20 and available for purchase online (tickets will be held at the venue's box office). Salty's Beach Bar is located at 1705 Main Street in Lake Como, New Jersey. The show is open to 21 and up.

Josie Cotton is best known for "Johnny, Are You Queer?" and "He Could Be The One" which were two of three songs of hers included on the Valley Girl soundtrack. Her latest release, Day of the Gun, came out in May 2023. A video for the title track was released on October 30, 2023.

The Plimsouls are best known for "A Million Miles Away" - one of the most popular songs of the 1980s and a top track from the Valley Girl soundtrack. It was one of three songs by the band on the album. Both Josie Cotton and The Plimsouls appeared in the film as well. The Plimsouls have been on again, off again ever since the 1980s and is now led by Guitarist Eddie Muñoz who registered a trademark of the band's name in 2016.

Kurt Baker is touring in support of his new album Rock 'N' Roll Club, out now on Wicked Cool Records. "Kurt Baker, one of our era’s foremost proponents of power pop and keeper of the flame, returns with his latest album chock full of rock and roll goodness. The music is essential listening for all fans of power pop and rock," said Jersey Beat.

Eddie

Eddie Skuller to pay tribute to Tom Waits in Hoboken

(HOBOKEN, NJ) -- Looking for the heart of Saturday night? Find it in Hoboken on Saturday, May 10, 2025 when the 503 Social Club presents singer/songwriter Eddie Skuller's tribute to the "Ballads of Tom Waits." Skuller explores the dark, poetic world of Tom Waits with diverse selections from his extensive catalog. Although Skuller's amber-saturated vocals contrast with Wait's raucous gravel-like voice, there is a connection channeled through the music's emotional depth and lyrical intensity. Skuller can forge a deep, powerful bond with his audience, which enhances the tragic expression at the core of Waits' music.

On Banjo

'On Banjo' with Alison Brown

There was a time when I would have told you that my knowledge of the banjo was limited to whom I considered one of the most famous banjo players, who also happens to be my favorite musical amphibian, Mr. Kermit The Frog. "The Rainbow Connection" a la "The Muppet Movie" as performed by the little green dude, the world's greatest producer, was my first introduction to the string instrument and will forever hold a special place in my heart.
