(CARTERET, NJ) -- Having kicked off September 13 with a carnival rides and games, a battle of the bands, and a freestyle music night, Mayor Dan Reiman's Charity Carnival continues with the Borough's 47th annual Ethnic Day from noon to midnight on Saturday, September 16, and its Charity Car Show from 10:00am to 3:00pm on Sunday, Sept. 17, all in Carteret Park on Carteret Avenue.
On Saturday, the long-treasured Ethnic Day will feature fireworks at 9:30pm, plus performances starting at 7:30 pm by:
C+C Music Factory, the Queens, N.Y.-based hip-hop ensemble whose 1990 mega-hit, “Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now),” has sold eight million copies
Tag Team, the Atlanta-based hip-hop duo of DC the Brain Supreme and Steve Rolln, who rose to the charts with their 1993 debut, “Whoomp! (There It Is)”
DJ Jazzy Jeff, who rose to fame with his partner, the Fresh Prince, aka Will Smith, with their Grammy-winning smash debut single, “Parents Just Don’t Understand.”
“Carteret is one of the most culturally diverse towns in New Jersey,” Mayor Daniel J. Reiman said. “Our annual Ethnic Day is a reflection of that diversity, as is our fantastic music lineup.”
The Charity Carnival is one of the annual fundraisers for The Mayor’s Children’s Charity Trust, a nonprofit that provides the Borough’s children with monetary resources for education, athletics and health.
The Trust Fund was created in recognition that many youngsters are high achievers with great potential who can better establish their own paths to success with needed financial support, Mayor Reiman said.
“The annual Charity Carnival is a great time each year for families to come together and end the summer with fun,” the Mayor said. “We’re excited to feature great live music and raise money for the Charity Trust Fund.”
Sponsored by the Carteret Business Partnership, the Borough’s nonprofit economic development corporation, and organized by Borough-based Central Jersey Arts Council, Carteret’s second annual Battle of the Bands on September 14 featured prize winners were:
Rioz Band, a Spanish rock band from Carteret that took the first-place prize of $1,500
Borough-based rapper Lord Greazy, second place, $1,000
Blooming Reminiscence, a Filipino-American band from Middlesex County formed at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, third place, $500
Hackettstown-based Americana act WinterLong, honorable mention, $250.
Performers of an ’80s and ’90s Freestyle Music Night on September 15 were Johnny O, George Lamond, Sa-Fire, and C-Bank.
