(NEWARK, NJ) -- Clinton Hill Community Action (CHCA) and South Ward ArtsXChange will present Visual Arts with Clinton Hill’s own Malik Whitaker on Thursday, July 27, 2023 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. The event will take place at the Gant-Gilbert Arts Collective at 505 Clinton Avenue, Newark, NJ.
Free for the community, all are welcome to come learn all about visual arts and create art of their own! Attendees will learn about illustration, free hand drawing, painting, abstract art, sculpture, collages, and more. All art supplies will be provided, so residents are encouraged to simply bring curiosity, their creativity, and a friend!
Malik Whitaker is an award winning artist who grew up in Clinton Hill and graduated from St. Benedict’s Prep. His work has been featured in publications, displayed as murals on several buildings in Essex County, and exhibited in many galleries and exhibitions. In addition, Whitaker has mentored students from Newark who want to learn to turn their artistic dreams into reality.

Clinton Hill Community Action (CHCA) is a nonprofit, community development organization that engages residents and partners to revitalize the Clinton Hill neighborhood in Newark’s South Ward. They believe this work must be led by residents, alongside partners who understand the centrality of the role of residents in naming challenges, identifying solutions that are most responsive to their hopes and aspirations, and collaboratively acting for sustained progress. CHCA facilitates this collaborative action and advocacy with a focus on quality, affordable housing, food security, economic empowerment, and environmental justice. Since their founding in 2019, they have worked to build trust in the community and engage residents to address long standing issues.
