Asbury Park Music Foundation Announces Two Free Shows on The Boardwalk (June 16-17)

originally published: 05/09/2023

(ASBURY PARK, NJ) – The nonprofit Asbury Park Music Foundation (APMF) has announced two free shows on Friday, June 16 and Saturday, June 17 in partnership with The Break and Low Dive, the boardwalk’s newest tenants. The Break (formerly Langosta Lounge) and Low Dive (formerly APYC) have been magnets for live music, and the new era continues that tradition. These shows will celebrate the diversity of Asbury Park music past and present, while paving the way for young artists to continue personifying Asbury Park in the future.

According to Tom Donovan, Executive Director of APMF, “The owners of The Break and Low Dive have made a purposeful effort to ensure that live music will continue to thrive at the restaurants, as it did during previous ownership. The Break and Low Dive have graciously agreed to allow APMF to solicit donations and sell Music Saved Asbury Park merchandise at the concerts, to secure support for our mission-driven programming.”

The mission of APMF includes preserving Asbury Park’s rich musical legacy, and one way this is done is by bringing the community together for free, live music and supporting musicians with opportunities to perform in Asbury Park and surrounding areas. At Low Dive, the weekend kicks off with the Boardwalk Bonanza on Friday, June 16th starting at 9:00pm. The lineup features locals Blaise, The Break Plans, and City Vision.

At The Break, APMF will present Then and Now: An Asbury Park Music Sampler on the Asbury Park Boardwalk on Saturday, June 17th. It will feature an eclectic mix of local musicians performing rock, soul, jazz, and other Jersey Shore classics: Audra Mariel & A Real Human Jazz Band at Noon, Shayne and Xerri at 1:45pm, and The Uneasy at 3:00pm. Donations and merchandise sales will support APMF’s music education platform.

Donovan states, “In addition to hosting live music events, APMF works with Lakehouse Music Academy to provide the Music Saved My Life music education program to students in Asbury Park and Red Bank. Music Saved My Life offers holistic, professional music training to students so they can build confidence and healthy relationships as they play, write, record and promote music. We have established a collaborative partnership with The Break and Low Dive for our nonprofit to align with the restaurant and musicians performing there, strengthen the Asbury Park music scene, and raise awareness of APMF.”
