(TEANECK, NJ) -- On April 19 at 7:30pm, there will be a screening of Free Chol Soo Lee, the last of the virtual film series presented this winter and spring through the continued partnership between TIFF, The Puffin Foundation Ltd., PBS, and Indie Lens Pop-Up. Free Chol Sool Lee is about a Korean immigrant, who was sentenced to life for a 1973 San Francisco murder and set free after a pan-Asian solidarity movement helped to overturn his conviction. After 10 years of fighting for his life inside California state prisons, Lee found himself in a new fight to rise to the expectations of the people who believed in him.
The documentary will be shown with a short from the NJ PBS “21 Film Series” which tells the story of someone from each of New Jersey’s 21 counties. On April 19, you will meet Edgar Aquino-Huerta, of Cumberland County, the son of undocumented migrant workers who is using his protected status and voice to help educate the local undocumented community and advocate for immigration reform.
