Arts Council of Princeton invites Community to Upcycle Wardrobe at an Earth Day "Swap-o-Rama"

originally published: 03/27/2023

Breathe new life into your old clothes at the April 22 "Swap-o-Rama". Registration will include sewing instruction, fabric, and other supplies to help you complete a one-of-a-kind upcycled ensemble.

(PRINCETON, NJ) -- The Arts Council of Princeton (ACP) invites the Princeton community to take a look in your closet. When was the last time you wore that pink plaid blazer or those red velvet bellbottoms? The EPA reports that we generate 16 million tons of textile waste annually, and that is just here in the United States. Approximately 700,000 tons of clothing gets exported and estimates for recycled clothing are near 2.5 million tons worldwide.

To breathe new life into old clothes, the ACP is to host a Swap-o-Rama on Saturday, April 22 from 1:00pm-4:00pm. Participants can begin by selecting some clothes that are in good shape, but just don’t bring that much joy anymore. Bag them up and head over to the Arts Council to turn that blazer into a tunic and those bellbottoms into a fun new skirt for the spring. Swap clothing and materials with fellow attendees as you know what they say: "one's trash is another's treasure".

Registration is $25 and includes knowledgeable instruction and access to sewing machines, fabric, notions and other supplies to help you complete a one-of-a-kind upcycled ensemble. For more information and registration, visit artscouncilofprinceton.org.
