The ShowRoom in Asbury Park and Remember Jones to launch new film series with Little Richard documentary

originally published: 03/22/2023

(ASBURY PARK, NJ) -- The ShowRoom Cinema will present a one night only screening of the new documentary Little Richard: I Am Everything on Tuesday, April 11 at 7:30pm. This screening will launch a new film series, “Remember Jones Presents,” hosted by renowned musician Remember Jones.

The Sundance Film Festival opening night documentary Little Richard: I Am Everything tells the story of the Black queer origins of rock n’ roll, exploding the whitewashed canon of American pop music to reveal the innovator – the originator – Richard Penniman. Through a wealth of archive and performance that brings us into Richard’s complicated inner world, the film unspools the icon’s life story with all its switchbacks and contradictions.

In interviews with family, musicians, and cutting-edge Black and queer scholars, the film reveals how Richard created an art form for ultimate self-expression, yet what he gave to the world he was never able to give to himself. Throughout his life, Richard careened like a shiny cracked pinball between God, sex and rock n’ roll. The world tried to put him in a box, but Richard was an omni being who contained multitudes – he was unabashedly everything. Directed by Lisa Cortés, who served as an executive producer on the Oscar winning film Precious.

Seating for this ONE NIGHT ONLY screening are very limited and available now at showroomcinemas.com. The ShowRoom Cinema, Asbury Park’s home of movies and more, is located at 707 Cookman Ave., Asbury Park, New Jersey.

Remember Jones, calling Asbury Park home, is a nationally acclaimed director/producer, a one-of-kind soul/pop singer, and bombastic entertainer who has shared stages with notable acts such as Bruce Springsteen, George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, Ronnie Spector & The Ronettes, Darlene Love, Buster Poindexter, Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes, Low Cut Connie, and more.
