Speranza Theatre Company Presents Celebrating Women In History: A Conversation About Nellie Bly and Screening of "Votes For Women" Film

originally published: 03/15/2023

(JERSEY CITY, NJ) -- Speranza Theatre Company presents Celebrating Women in History: A Conversation About Nellie Bly and LIVE film screening of Votes for Women. The film was adapted from a play written by Jennie Contuzzi. Learn about Nellie Bly’s connection with Hudson County and discuss how YOU can affect change in your community. Conversations and screening take place on March 18, 2023 at 1:00 pm. This event is free and open to the public with the film having a runtime of 30-minutes, no intermission. This event will take place at Jersey City, City Hall, 280 Grove Street, Jersey City, NJ.

The film takes place in 1913 as thousands and thousands of women gather in Washington, D.C. They are there to call for a constitutional amendment guaranteeing women the right to vote. While the fight for suffrage has been going on for 60 years, this huge parade, spearheaded by Alice Paul and the National American Woman Suffrage Association, marks the first major national event for the movement.

For a family audience of all ages, this emotional story is told from the perspective of the women who led the charge, and paved the way for the fight for equality.

For more information or to make a reservation, visit www.SperanzaTheatre.com. This event is FREE and open to the public.
