(SOUTH AMBOY, NJ) -- Middlesex County, in partnership with the Middlesex County Arts Institute, is holding a mural contest that will bring color and life to the Raritan Bay Waterfront Park in South Amboy. Submissions for the contest will be accepted from artists of all ages and skill levels living in Middlesex County, now through March 29. The winning mural design will be announced on April 14 and will be painted on the comfort building at Raritan Bay Waterfront Park.
“I’m so excited to be showcasing the community and artistic talent that Middlesex County offers through this one-of-a-kind contest,” said Director of the Board of County Commissioners Ronald G. Rios. “This new mural will bring new vibrance to the historic South Amboy waterfront, a staple of Middlesex County. With spring right around the corner, this contest could not come at a better time, as residents return to enjoying the park’s scenery and amenities.”
“The Middlesex County Arts Institute is committed to promoting the arts and supporting local artists, and this mural contest is just one of the ways we are fulfilling that mission,” said Middlesex County Commissioners Chanelle Scott McCullum. “We believe that public art has the power to bring people together and create a sense of community, and we are confident that this mural will be a source of pride for the residents of South Amboy and Middlesex County for years to come,”
The theme for the mural should be inspired by the land, sea, history or community of the location, and the goal is to create a piece of public art that brings together the residents of South Amboy and Middlesex County. The winning mural design will be painted by a local muralist. The muralist and designer will both be recognized at the site of the mural.
Artists are encouraged to submit their entries now through March 29. Designs must be submitted using the submission template found online. A judging committee from the County will choose three designs to go to a public vote from April 7th – April 13th, and the winning design will be announced on April 14.
