(HARVEY CEDARS, NJ) -- Lighthouse International Film Society & Firefly Gallery of Surf City present a screening of Pacifiction on Friday, March 3 at 7:30pm. The screening takes place at the  High Point Firehouse, 10 West 80th St., Harvey Cedars, NJ. Catalan filmmaker Albert Serra reconfirms his centrality in the contemporary cinematic landscape with this mesmerizing portrait of a French bureaucrat (through a fateful trip to a French Polynesian island with increasing anxiety.

On the French Polynesian island of Tahiti, the High Commissioner of the Republic is a calculating man with flawless manners who coolly navigates both the political establishment and the indigenous underground scene.

But as rumors swirl about a return by the French government to nuclear testing in the region, he must face the swiftly changing calculus of his personal and professional lives. With the natural beauty of this tropical paradise as the backdrop, “Pacifiction” is a mesmerizing portrait of a French bureaucrat caught between cultures.

Written and directed by Albert Serra, the film is a slow-building atmospheric thriller, catching us by surprise with the depth of its darkness; a film that allows its incisive social commentary about the remnants of colonialism to surface through the disquieting observations of socio-political forces.
