(SUMMIT, NJ) -- The Summit Playhouse presents The Old Settler, a play by John Henry Redwood, weekends from February 24th to March 11th. In the play, sparks fly in a 1943 Harlem tenement between an old spinster and her skeptical sister when a handsome young man arrives on their doorstep. Full of humor and grit, this authentic story of love and survival reverberates with timelessness and warmth.
The production is directed by Di Shawn J. Gandy and features Diane Parker (Elizabeth), Karen Stefano (Quilly), Derek Simmons (Husband), and Rachelle Carey (Lou Bessie).
Performance take place Friday, February 24th, 2023 at 8:00pm; Saturday, February 25th, 2023 at 8:00pm; Sunday, February 26th, 2023 at 2:00pm; Friday, March 3rd, 2023 at 8:00pm; Saturday, March 4th, 2023 at 8:00pm; Sunday, March 5th, 2023 at 2:00pm; Friday, March 10th, 2023 at 8:00pm; and Saturday, March 11th, 2023 at 8:00pm.
Tickets are Adults: $25; Seniors/Students (with valid ID): $20. Tickets are available for purchase online. The Summit Playhouse is located at 10 New England Avenue in Summit, New Jersey.
The Summit Playhouse, a non-profit community theatre, was founded in 1918 as a World War I relief organization. Since then, we have mounted over 300 productions, and we are one of the oldest continuously operating community theatres in the United States. We produce three Main Stage shows a year, with performances in November, February/March, and April/May. Kaleidoscope Youth Theatre presents a Junior production in December and July, a full-length musical every summer, and various workshops throughout the year. Their community service includes a benefit performance of each of our regular plays, theater awards for Dramatic Arts students, and Summit community collaborations. Their Kaleidoscope productions have traveled to various outreach locations, including special education schools, nursing homes, and children's hospitals, to share their productions with those who cannot travel to see them.
