Theater to Go presents "The Fantasticks" at Kelsey Theatre (WEST WINDSOR, NJ) -- Kelsey Theatre continues its outstanding series of 2023 productions with Theater to Go’s presentation of The Fantasticks. The show runs weekends from Friday, February 3 through Sunday, February 12. A modern twist on Romeo and Juliet, this is the quintessential story of two young lovers who grow apart when they realize they want to experience the world. A charming and heartwarming story appropriate for all ages, the score includes timeless songs such as “Try To Remember”, “Soon It’s Gonna Rain” and “They Were You.”
Premiere Stages at Kean University Announces Camp Premiere 2023: A Summer of Theatrical Adventures (UNION, NJ) -- Premiere Stages, the professional theatre company at Kean University, has announced that Camp Premiere, the annual summer theatre program for middle school and high school students, will be held on Kean University’s East Campus. Premiere Stages will offer two two-week sessions this summer.
Vivid Dreamers Summer Theatre Camp at Vivid Stage (SUMMIT, NJ) -- Vivid Stage, in residence at Oakes Center at 120 Morris Avenue in Summit, will hold its Vivid Dreamers summer theatre program for students entering grades 5 through 12 from July 10 through July 28, 2023. Early Bird enrollment, which saves families $50, ends on April 15.
The Middletown Arts Center presents "The Chef", produced by Dunbar Repertory Company (MIDDLETOWN, NJ) -- The Middletown Arts Center, in collaboration with the Dunbar Repertory Company, celebrates Black History Month with the World Premiere production of The Chef. Written by Larry Americ Allen and directed by Darrell Lawrence Willis, Sr., the spirited, romantic novel play will run over two weekends, February 17–19 and February 24–26. A special Meet the Playwright and a “Talk Back” Q&A session will take place directly after the Sunday, February 19th, 4:00pm performance.

Live Music and Iconic Photography in Partnership with Jazz Foundation of America Tuesday nights are special at New York’s Thompson Central Park Hotel (formerly the Parker Meridien). From 6-9 p.m. in Parker’s lobby/atrium bar there is now live jazz, thanks to the efforts of the Jazz Foundation of America, a nonprofit organization that has existed since 1989 to provide such things as housing and emergency assistance, pro bono medical care, and disaster relief for jazz musicians in need.
Beyoncé World Tour Includes Show at MetLife Stadium (EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ) -- Following the wildly successful release of Beyoncé's seventh studio album, Renaissance, the global superstar has announced the Renaissance World Tour, her first solo tour in over six years. The 2023 tour, produced by Parkwood Entertainment, and promoted by Live Nation, kicks off on May 10, 2023, at Friends Arena in Stockholm, SE, making stops throughout Europe and then continues across North America. Locally, the tour comes to Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on July 12th and MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford on Saturday, July 29, 2023.
River Crossing Concerts opens Their 2023 Season On March 5th with a concert celebrating Women's History Month (RIVER EDGE, NJ) -- River Crossing Concerts opens their 2023 season on Sunday, March 5th with a concert celebrating Women’s History Month at First Congregational Church in River Edge. Sunday musicale is a program in the style of the 19-century salon concert featuring the NJ premiere of Clarice Assad’s Confessions for soprano and piano trio plus music by Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel as well as William Grant Still. Guest artists include the soprano Jenny Ribeiro, violinist Hayne Kim, and cellist Ben Larsen, joined by RCC’s artistic director, pianist Slavina Zhelezova. High School Filmmakers Recognized and Awarded At Ramapo College's Sixth Annual Film Festival (MAHWAH, NJ) -- Just a few days after Oscar nominations blanketed news channels, Ramapo College’s sixth annual RCNJ High School Film Festival took center stage on Saturday, January 28th at the Berrie Center on campus. More than 150 films were submitted by students from high schools across New Jersey. Among the more than 40 high schools that participated, submissions hailed from nearby Bergen County Academies in Bergen County, Passaic County Technical Institute in neighboring Passaic County, Bayonne High School in Hudson County, and even as far south as Middletown and Raritan High Schools in Monmouth County.
First Girl delivers a shock at the Spring 2023 New Jersey Film Festival
First Girl, written and directed by Ellie Konn, yields an unexpected shocking twist on a first time romance flick. The film follows the character of Nadia, a shy teenager exploring her sexuality, as she develops a crush on a girl in her class, Abby. Viewers originally witness her glancing at Abby, frozen with admiration, a state that many can resonate with. Though at first Nadia seems afraid to express her feelings, fate works in her favor as the two are paired together for a school project on female authors. As the girls exchange phone numbers in an awkwardly adorable short conversation, viewers can relate to Nadia’s nervous attitude which mirrors the nerve-wracking emotions associated with having a crush.

"Women's Work" Makes Bold Statements, Yields Nuanced Thoughts A 2019 Public Library of Science survey of eighteen prominent American museums revealed that over 80% of represented artists are male. This is not new. Throughout history, work by women artists has been undervalued. But, as Susan Fisher Sterling, the Alice West Director of the National Museum of Women in the Arts, told NEA Arts, there are things that people can do to help drive change. One of her suggestions is this: "Support women artists and the institutions exhibiting their work. Privilege those places that are working towards achieving gender equality."
Historic mural of Washington Crossing the Delaware is rediscovered (TITUSVILLE, NJ) -- A priceless painting depicting Washington’s troops crossing the Delaware, which languished in a dusty basement for 50 years, was recently unearthed and is being restored by the volunteer friends group of Washington Crossing State Park. When the restoration is complete, the painting will hang in pride of place in the new Visitors’ Center to be located at the overlook in the New Jersey Park.
