(NEWTON, NJ) -- The Newton Theatre presents Dead Set: Winterland Revisited on Saturday, February 18, 2023 at 8:00pm. Fans can expect two high energy sets of Grateful Dead music from the legendary Winterland 77′ show! An all-star band was put together for this voyage. Expect magic to happen….with Dead Set: Winterland Revisited with Kenny Brooks (RatDog), Zach Nugent (formerly JGB) and Sunshine Garcia (Further).
Brooks is the founder of the groundbreaking hip/hop-jazz band Alphabet Soup, one of San Francisco's most-loved live acts. Alphabet Soup was the first hip/hop-jazz group at both the Monterey and San Francisco Jazz Festivals. In 2000 he joined the Grateful Dead’s Bob Weir and his band RatDog and toured for 10 years with the rock legend. After experiencing his high energy shows, his new fans will see why he has played with too many jam bands and festivals to list.
It usually only takes one show to understand why Nugent is one of the most sought after guitarists in the live music scene. Since touring as de-facto Jerry Garcia expert with Melvin Seals & JGB, he continues to build his dedicated following, putting together and leading multifaceted groups for special runs and festival appearances. Never one to shy away from new and challenging ideas, his performances promise intensity and beauty.
Ever inventive in her drive to deliver songs from the heart that feel authentic to the core, Sunshine (Garcia) Becker is a multi-talented musician and songwriter who has had much of her success in the Jam band genre of Rock & Roll music. She toured nationally with the Grateful Dead’s spin-off band, Furthur, and later with Melvin Seals (Jerry Garcia’s surviving organist) & JGB Band. Sunshine continues to perform with many Bay Area jam bands including Zigaboo Modeliste, String Cheese Incident, Mark Karan, & Everyone Orchestra, singing to sold out crowds wherever people come to dance, celebrate and leave uplifted.
