David Ostwald's Hot Four Swings into Madison on December 11th

(MADISON, NJ) -- David Ostwald remembers a gig in the late ‘90s when 20-year-old trombonist Dion Tucker was on the same bandstand as clarinetist Joe Muranyi, who was in his early 70s. That is not an unusual experience. On any given night, through the past two decades-plus at NYC’s Birdland, Ostwald’s band might have paired veteran musicians such as pianist Dick Hyman, trumpeter Ed Polcer, and saxophonist Bob Wilber with young rising stars such as clarinetist/saxophonist Anat Cohen, trumpeter/vocalist Bria Skonberg, and drummer Marion Felder.

It's Time – Presents Under the Tree, Cold Weather, Carolers, Santas Everywhere You Look – and the Nutcracker, and the 50th Anniversary of It Here, Too

The holidays are here and, with them, a dozen or more productions of Pyotr Tchaikovsky’ fabled and warm-hearted ballet the Nutcracker, with its lovable kids and fierce mice. This year, too, we need colorful hats and loud horns to welcome it back because this is the 50th anniversary of the New Jersey Ballet’s Nutcracker, started so long ago by dance troupe artistic director Carolyn Clark and as welcome this year as then.
