(WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ) -- Monmouth University's Department of Music and Theatre Arts presents Fun Home from November 11-20. Adapted from Alison Bechdel’s groundbreaking graphic novel, Fun Home is a refreshingly honest, wholly original musical about seeing your parents through grown-up eyes. In an effort to make the show accessible to as wide an audience as possible, they have decided to make the show free to the public. 

When her father dies unexpectedly, graphic novelist Alison dives deep into her past to tell the story of the volatile, brilliant, one-of-a-kind man whose temperament and secrets defined her family and her life. Moving between past and present, Alison relives her unique childhood playing at the family’s Bechdel Funeral Home, her growing understanding of her own sexuality, and the looming, unanswerable questions about her father’s hidden desires.

Presented by the Department of Music and Theatre Arts, Fun Home features Director Sheri Anderson, Choreographer by Bob Boross, Musical Director of George Wurzbach and Assistant Director Annie Sacks.

Performances take place November 11 at 8:00pm; November 12 at 8:00pm; November 13 at 3:00pm; November 16 at 8:00pm; November 17 at 8:00pm; November 18 at 8:00pm; November 19 at 8:00pm; and November 20 at 3:00pm.

Fun Home is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals.

The production take place in the Lauren K. Woods Theatre, located at 400 Cedar Avenue in West Long Branch, New Jersey.  This is an intimate 140 seat venue housed in the Department of Music and Theatre Arts and once the carriage house for Murry and Leonie Guggenheim of the famed Guggenheim family; students and theatergoers can still see the look of horse stables in many of the building’s features. Newly renovated but with the same charm of a century-old building, the theater is named after one of Monmouth’s most celebrated faculty members and hosts a variety of musical events and theater productions.
