originally published: 09/09/2022

(JERSEY CITY, NJ) -- Speranza Theatre Company presents Walk By The Way Of The Moon, by Jacqueline Kennedy - a 30-minute family-friendly historical play about Jersey City’s connection to the Underground Railroad. This show will tour parks throughout Hudson County in September 2022. All performances are free and open to the public. Reservations required, donations appreciated. Please bring your own lawn chair.

Performance locations around Hudson County include: Apple Tree House, Van Vorst Park, Lincoln Park, Berry Lane Park, Columbus Park, West Hudson Park, Canco Park, and Stephen R. Gregg Park.

In the play, ten-year old Fleta Hazel's enslaved family makes the difficult choice to run for their freedom. Not knowing what’s ahead, young Fleta Hazel must find the courage for the long and dangerous trip, fueled by hope for a new life at their final stop, Jersey City.

The play has a run time of 30 minutes. There will not be an intermission. It is recommended for ages: 6+

This program is made possible by support from Jersey City Office of Cultural Affairs, The Museum of Jersey City History, and a grant from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, a division of the Department of State, and administered by the Hudson County Office of Cultural & Heritage Affairs, Thomas A. DeGise, Hudson County Executive & the Hudson County Board of County Commissioners.
