(PRINCETON, NJ) -- Enjoy a free, outdoor concert of Celtic and American folk music in Herrontown Woods on Thursday, September 22, from 7:00pm to 8:30pm. The Friends of Herrontown Woods (FOHW), the all volunteer group managing more than 200 acres in the Herrontown Woods Preserve and in the Autumn Hill Reservation, will host the Chivalrous Crickets in the garden next to the historic Veblen House.
Come earlier, from 6:00pm to 7:00pm, and bring a BYO picnic dinner and blanket or lawn chair to catch the last sunset of the summer. The band’s vocal harmonies and its historical and orchestral instruments, including the lute, Baroque guitar, bassoon, and various historical pipes, will offer a lively prelude to the autumnal equinox that will arrive at 9:04pm.
Donations are encouraged to support the Friends and the Crickets, and can be made in person or on the website.
The Philadelphia/Princeton-based band The Chivalrous Crickets explore the roots, branches, and crossroads of Celtic and American folk music, as well as early European art music. The group is known for their lavish vocal harmonies, rich instrumental textures, and traditional repertoire treated with creative new twists.
The Crickets specialize in using historical and orchestral instruments, in addition to the usual folk music suspects, including the lute, Baroque guitar, bassoon, and various historical pipes. Upcoming performances this season include the Main Line Early Music Series in Bryn Mawr; the release of their Christmas album, "A Chivalrous Cricketmas" with Gotham Early Music Scene Midtown Concerts, New York; Bethlehem, PA's Celtic Classic Festival; Mohonk Mountain House's Scottish Weekend and Summer Festival of the Arts; "A Twelfth Night Feast" at Bethlehem, PA's Ice House Tonight; The Dean's Concert Series at Jefferson University; a collaboration with The Museum of the American Revolution in Philadelphia for a St. Andrew's Day Celebration, and their annual cruise with Schooner Victory Chimes out of Rockland, Maine.
Feel free to bring a picnic dinner, lawn chairs, blankets, bug spray - and a flashlight if you have it!
The Chivalrous Crickets will be selling their CDs at the event.
