
(NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- Sanford “Sandy" Josephson is the instructor for More Giants of Jazz, an online course at Rutgers Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. The course takes place on Wednesdays from September 7 through October 12. The class runs from 10:30am to 12:00pm. No class is scheduled for October 5. The Course code: RV42. The class is done on ZOOM.
This course includes all new jazz giants! Each class will focus on jazz legends, someone who made a difference in the development of America’s original art form. We will discuss biographical information with an emphasis on personal stories and share examples of the music. Testimonials will also be used to help affirm why these artists are so important in the history of jazz. This session we will explore artists such as Hoagy Carmichael, Count Basie Alumni Assn., Mary Lou Williams, Dave Brubeck, and Modern Jazz Quartet.

Sanford “Sandy" Josephson is the author of Jeru’s Journey: The Life and Music of Gerry Mulligan (Hal Leonard Books), published in October 2015, and Jazz Notes: Interviews Across the Generations (Praeger/ABC-Clio), published in June 2009. He is currently Editor of Jersey Jazz Magazine, published by the New Jersey Jazz Society. He has also written extensively about jazz musicians in publications ranging from the New York Daily News to American Way Magazine.
