(ASBURY PARK, NJ) -- On Saturday, July 30 from 7:00pm-10:00pm, art629 Gallery presents “A dogmatic Art Show!”, featuring a collection of artwork and live paintings by local artist and performer Josh “dogmatic” Matson. The evening will also feature musical performances by Rick Barry of Asbury Park, Jesse Lee of Accidental Seabirds, and Trashboat Dickinson of Puppy Grease. This event is free and open to the public. The work will be on display for one week from July 30-August 6.

dogmatic has been painting live during performances at concert venues, music festivals, poetry readings, weddings, dance recitals, roller derbies, and other locations all over the New York Tri-State area for many years. His favorite spaces to paint are on the Jersey Shore, specifically Asbury Park. You may have seen him at The Saint, The Stone Pony, The Brighton Bar, Asbury Lanes, or even the parking lot of Walmart on Black Friday. Typically he is standing in front of an easel over a faux fur drop cloth in his paint splattered jeans, brushes in hand, listening to the music and letting the sound flow through him and onto the canvas. He uses acrylic paint to capture the vibe of each band or performance, taking inspiration from the bands’ names, lyrics, and song meanings.

dogmatic has painted for touring acts like the Violent Femmes, Rusted Root, Keller Williams, and Moe, but those are just moments among years of capturing the scene of local musicians like Rick Barry, Accidental Seabirds, Turtle Soup, Cranston Dean, Bone and Marrow and many more.

This show can be considered a history of Asbury Park music expressed on canvas, portraying over a decade of paintings. Work will be on display for one week from July 30-Aug 6. All paintings are available for purchase.  Gallery hours vary, and it is suggested to call ahead for hours of operation or to make an appointment: (908) 278-1597.

art629 Gallery was founded by artist Patrick Schiavino in 2009.  The gallery is located at 629 Cookman Avenue, in the heart of downtown Asbury Park, and has been host of many shows including painting, photography, sculpture, theater, spoken word, and musical events like the Asbury Underground. The gallery is dedicated to the exhibition of fine and contemporary art with the objective of giving all artists a voice while bringing new ideas to the region.
