(PATERSON, NJ) -- In celebration of New Jersey Day (Wednesday, July 27), the County of Passaic, in partnership with Passaic County Community College, will present a talk and documentary film about the life of Baseball Hall of Famer Larry Doby at the college. Doby followed Jackie Robinson, a mere 11 weeks, to become the second African American in Major League Baseball. Admission is free.

The talk and lecture on Larry Doby will take place at the Passaic County Community College Theatre (1 College Blvd, Paterson, NJ). The program will begin at 6:30pm. Click here to register for the free event.

Parking is available in the visitor's lot on Ellison Street, if that fills up, parking will be available in Lot Two on the corner of College Blvd and Memorial Drive.

Larry Doby excelled at sports while attending Paterson Eastside High School.  In addition to playing baseball, he lettered in track, and was a wide receiver on the football team.

Doby was born on December 13, 1923 and died on June 18, 2003. He went straight from the Negro Leagues to the Cleveland Indians - breaking the color barrier for the American League. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1998 and into the New Jersey Hall of Fame in 2010.
