Passaic County Presents a Series on Baseball

originally published: 06/30/2022

(HAWTHORNE, NJ) -- The Passaic County Baseball Series kicks off on Wednesday, July 6th at 6:30pm with a Lecture on Charlie Jamieson. Join baseball historian John Zinn at the Passaic County Arts Center in Hawthorne for a lecture about the life of Paterson's Charlie Jamieson, an 18-year Major League veteran. Jamieson has a unique connection to Larry Doby, both lived in Paterson and both a part of the last two Cleveland Indians World Series championship. Jamieson in 1920, and Doby in 1948.

The Series continues on Saturday, July 9th at 11:00am with a Vintage Base Ball Game. Want to see the infancy of baseball? Join them at Weasel Brook Park in Clifton for a Base Ball game (yes that's how they once spelled it!) The game will be officiated by the rules of 1864! The Brooklyn Atlantics will take on the Elizabeth Resolutes at Weasel Brook Park near Clinton Avenue.

An Author Lecture: Paul Semendinger "The Least Among Them" is the third of the series and takes place Wednesday, July 20th at 6:30pm. It's the day after the All-Star Game, and the slowest day on the sports calendar. Keep those All-Star vibes going and join author Paul Semendinger as he discusses his book, "The Least Among Them." This book tells the unique histories of the men whose entire Major League Baseball career lasted but a single game, with that game being played with the New York Yankees. While these players may be forgotten, their stories are compelling. The lecture takes place at the Passaic County Arts Center at the John W. Rea House in Hawthorne.

The Series concludes with a Larry Doby Documentary on Wednesday, July 27th at 6:30pm. Celebrate New Jersey Day by viewing a documentary on one of the State's greatest ballplayers, Larry Doby at Passaic County Community College Theatre in Paterson.
