Black Box PAC Presents World Premiere of "Exposed" by Beth Henley


(ENGLEWOOD, NJ) -- Black Box PAC's 2022 Save Our Stages season continues with the world premiere production of Exposed, a new play by Beth Henley. The show runs at The Black Box Performing Arts Center from May 7-28. This fast-moving, poignant comedy follows five interconnected individuals on the Winter Solstice as they try to escape the pervasive loneliness of late 1990's Los Angeles.
Hudson Theatre Works presents "Curse of the Starving Class" by Sam Shepard


(WEEHAWKEN, NJ) -- Hudson Theatre Works presents Pulitzer Prize winning author Sam Shepard’s Curse of the Starving Class from May 5-22 at Theatre at the Wilson School in Weehawken. Shepard's deeply unsettling, darkly funny family melodrama centers on a family in a dire financial and emotional state, the play highlights the darker elements in the pursuit of the American dream. Note: this play is recommended for mature audiences.
Rodgers & Hammerstein's "South Pacific" comes to MPAC


(MORRISTOWN, NJ) -- Big League Productions, Inc. presents the innovative new production of the Tony and Pulitzer Prize winning masterpiece Rodgers & Hammerstein’s South Pacific, which comes to Mayo Performing Arts Center(MPAC) in Morristown for three performances May 13-14.  Love transcends the harsh realities of war and prejudice in this sweeping tale centered around two unlikely love affairs.
State Theatre presents "Hairspray"


(NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- The newly renovated State Theatre New Jersey presents Broadway’s Tony® Award-winning musical comedy phenomenon Hairspray for four performances from Friday, April 29 through Sunday, May 1st. Hairspray is the story of 16-year-old Tracy Turnblad in 1960’s Baltimore as she sets out to dance her way onto TV’s most popular show. The York Theatre Company presents "Marilyn Maye in May" benefit concert


(NEW YORK, NY) -- The York Theatre Company, in association with Riki Kane Larimer, will present a special one-night-only benefit concert evening starring special guest Manhattan Queen of Cabaret, Marilyn Maye, accompanied by the incomparable Tedd Firth for a one-night-only special benefit concert of Marilyn Maye in May on Monday evening, May 16, 2022 beginning at 7:30pm at The York’s temporary home, The Theatre at St. Jean’s (150 East 76th Street, between Lexington and Third Avenues).

APEX Youth Symphony To Hold Auditions For 2022-23


(MONTCLAIR, NJ) -- The APEX Ensemble is hosting auditions for the inaugural year of its Youth Program, led by Diego Garcia.  The Youth Symphony which will form the foundation for the program will be geared to music students in grades 7 through 12. Spring auditions will take place in-person on May 21 and 22 in Montclair, as well as providing a virtual option that may be submitted online.

(LOS ANGELES, CA) -- Valerie Carter, the late Laurel Canyon vocalist, shines a bright light with the newly released album, The Lost Tapes Volume 2, on Cowboy Angel Records.  Following up on the 2018 first issue of unreleased material, Volume 2 uncovers more musical gems and original material.  Once again, Val's sister Jan and close friend Kathy Kurasch have rediscovered hidden tracks and reengineered a collection of sonic beauties.

Monmouth University's Blue Hawk Records to release 20th compilation album


(WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ) -- Over the past few weeks, student life at Monmouth University has been bustling like never before as campus life recovers and adjusts to post-pandemic life. Similar to other national universities, Monmouth has moved back to in-person classes. This has led to the development and execution of many on-campus events and activities. Blue Hawk Records is one of the student-run organizations that thrived with the in-person comeback. This semester, the group has been actively creating their 20th studio album together, titled “Twenty”. This album, which will be released on April 22nd will be a remarkable milestone for not only the organization but the University.

Award-winning Dance Artist Gerald Casel Named Professor and Chair of Mason Gross Dance Department


(NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- Bessie Award-winning dance artist Gerald Casel has been named professor and chair of the Dance Department at Rutgers University’s Mason Gross School of the Arts. Casel comes to Rutgers from the University of California, Santa Cruz, where he currently serves as provost of Porter College, associate professor of theater arts, and director of graduate studies.

Smithsonian's Free Exhibit "Voices and Votes: Democracy in America" Comes to the Gallery at Mercer County Community College


(WEST WINDSOR, NJ) -- In partnership with the New Jersey Council for the Humanities (NJCH), Mercer County Community College (MCCC) will host Voices and Votes: Democracy in America, a traveling exhibit from the Smithsonian Institution. The exhibit comes to the Gallery at MCCC May 18 to June 20. The Gallery is located on the college’s West Windsor Campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road on the second floor of the Communication building.
