(WAYNE, NJ) -- Vital Theatre Company will perform their production of The Wizard of Oz as part of William Paterson University’s WP Presents series on Saturday, April 30 at 2:00pm in the Shea Center for Performing Arts on campus in Wayne, NJ.
The Wizard of Oz has been entertaining audiences for ages. This one-hour adaptation features a cast of 6 actors, the Munchkins as puppets, one flying monkey and a funny witch. Audiences will rediscover the joy of following the yellow brick road with Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tinman, and the Cowardly Lion as they travel through a reimagined world of Oz. Originally adapted, designed and directed for Vital Theatre Company by Michael Schloegl. The show is appropriate for ages 2 to 7 years old. This performance is also sensory friendly to accommodate individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities and the families and professionals who support them.
Vital Theatre Company is dedicated to producing entertaining and educational theatre for young audiences. Located in New York City, Vital Theatre Company commissions three to five new musicals for children each season. Since its founding in 1999, Vital Theatre Company has been honored with the Off-Broadway Alliance Award for Best Family Musical, two Awards for Excellence by the Off-Off Broadway Review, and has received high acclaim from audiences and critics alike for being "a wonderful place for parents to introduce their kids to the glories of live theatre, done well and at modest prices" (Off-Off Broadway Review). Now entering its 20th anniversary season, the company has presented over 75 original productions for over 300,000 children and their families.
The Wizard of Oz tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for children under 18 years of age. A Family Pack of (4-9 tickets) is available at a 15% discount if purchased before April 17th. William Paterson University’s WP Presents series strives to present high caliber touring artists across a range of disciplines including acoustic and world music, contemporary folk music, theatre, dance, family programming and other eclectic fare. A multitude of artists including David Crosby, Graham Nash, Lucinda Williams, DMC, Los Lonely Boys, Wanda Sykes, Paula Poundstone, Dar Williams, David Bromberg, Roy Haynes, Arlo Guthrie, Johnny Ventura, The 5th Dimension, Judy Collins, Southside Johnny, John Sebastian, Jim Messina and Dark Star Orchestra have graced our stage. We have presented works from national theatre tours of The Second City, Moscow Ballet, Aquila Theatre Company, American Place Theatre, TheaterWorks USA, Vital Theatre, and the National Theatre of the Deaf. Family Performances have included participation in New Jersey Theatre Alliance's Stages Festival, and sensory friendly productions presented by a variety of artists and theater companies. Many of our visiting artists conduct educational outreach programs, for both the community at large and the University.
