(HACKENSACK, NJ) -- Riverside Gallery presents "Looking Up" - a new solo exhibition by Marsha Heller. The exhibition will run from April 4th-April 20th, 2022 with an opening reception on Saturday, April 9th, 2022 from 4:00pm-6:00pm. According to the artist, “Looking Up” refers to the sights she beholds when looking out her windows or opening her door in the morning and seeing the sky shining through the trees. Every angle suggests a new painting to her. With these works, she tries to share her exhilaration with viewers, as she hopes that, for the world, things will soon be “Looking Up”.

Originally an oboist, Marsha Heller first discovered herself as an artist when she began to design flyers and posters for her recitals. Heller studied Graphic Design at the School of Visual Arts and Painting at NYU with Irving Marantz. She pursued more training at Chautauqua with Revington Arthur and further with with Sam Feinstein. Heller’s landscapes ceelbrate the sensuality of nature as found in her garden in Leonia, NJ. Her intention with painting is for her works to bring sunshine to rooms in which they hang, just as she hopes that her music with lighten the lives of the audience.

Marsha Heller depicts lush and painterly still lifes of flowers and landscapes expressing the feelings of The Sublime. Light (or “sunshine,” as the artist says), colors, and forms of abstraction are highly important experiments for Heller, as she re-experiences the act of painting every day. The formal qualities and the fragments of abstraction, sensations, and beauty endow the work with the qualities of Modernism, when artists attempted to rebel against the art establishment and its conventions limiting freedom and expression among the artists. In her art, Heller celebrates Modernism, which she appreciates as a person and artist of modernity. To Heller, it is not the latest trend that occupies her interest; rather, Heller finds joy in rediscovering the lessons of Modernism – to experiment with color and form and to make a personal expression to be shared and enjoyed with the greater audience.
