11 Year Old Leilah St. Clair Marshall Stars in "Whippoorwill" at Centenary Stage Company


(HACKETTSTOWN, NJ) -- Students at Arthur Stanlick Elementary School in Lake Hopatcong will cheer when their fellow student, eleven- year-old Leilah St. Clair Marshall stars in the World Premiere production of Centenary Stage Company’s Whippoorwill by Pulitzer Prize nominated playwright, Ruth Kirschner, running March 31 – April 10 at the Lackland Center for the Performing Arts.  
Paper Mill Playhouse presents "The Wanderer"


(MILLBURN, NJ) -- He’s coming back around after a postponement in the spring of 2020. Paper Mill Playhouse presents The Wanderer now through April 24, 2022. This is the riveting true story of the man Bruce Springsteen calls "the link between Frank Sinatra and rock and roll." Dion’s music helped define a generation, but the darker side of success threatened to bring it all crashing down. The Wanderer is a moving, no-holds-barred new musical about the glow of the spotlight, the shadow of addiction, and the triumph of the human spirit against all odds, set to the iconic sound of an incomparable era in American music.
Algonquin Arts Holds "Into the Woods" Scavenger Hunt in Manasquan throughout April


(MANASQUAN, NJ) -- Algonquin Arts Theatre will hold a Into the Wood’s Scavenger Hunt throughout the borough of Manasquan, NJ during the month of April. Into the Woods is a modern twist on the beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tales set to a musical format. This Tony Award-winning musical follows the classic tales of Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel and two princes - all tied together by the baker and his wife, their wish to begin a family and the witch who has put a curse on them. The promotion celebrating the theatre’s musical will incorporate ingredients “The Witch” needs in Into the Woods to make her young again. 
Eagle Theatre Highlights Local Playwright in Annual New Works Development Series


(HAMMONTON, NJ) -- Eagle Theatre once again presents the New Works Development Series, which works to nurture local playwrights, while featuring professional actors and offering patrons an intimate experience with original work in its infancy. As part of this series, Eagle Theatre will be presenting a staged reading of These Walls by local playwright, and soon to be Rowan University alumna, Salma Elwy. The reading will feature a cast of 7, and be directed by Anna Sorrentino. The staged reading will take place on April 3rd at 6:00pm at the Eagle’s historic downtown Hammonton venue, and is part of the New Jersey Theatre Alliance’s Stages Festival, the state’s largest annual theatre festival, which provides free and discounted theatre events for all ages throughout the months of March, April, and May.
State Theatre presents "Waitress"

Dramarama to play Light of Day "AfterFest" show


(ASBURY PARK, NJ) -- Light of Day Winterfest 2022 may be over, but Dramarama is coming back to Jersey for a LOD "AfterFest" show on Friday, April 22 at House of Independents in Asbury Park.  Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the show. Doors open at 7:00pm, showtime is 7:45pm.

WBGO and City of Newark Partner to Rename Street in Honor of Wayne Shorter


(NEWARK, NJ) -- On April 29 at 5:00pm, WBGO, Newark Public Radio, will celebrate the renaming of the street on which the station resides in honor of one of Newark's own, legendary jazz musician and composer Wayne Shorter. Founded in 1979, WBGO sits at the center of the ever growing arts district in Newark - the Central Ward. Earlier this year, the Newark City Council unanimously approved WBGO's proposal to rename Park Place after NEA Jazz Master, Kennedy Center Honoree, multiple Grammy Award Winner, and Newark native, Wayne Shorter.

Thomas Edison Film Festival and Jersey City Theater Center present "The Power of One" on April 8


(JERSEY CITY, NJ) -- Jersey City Theater Center (JCTC) and Thomas Edison Film Festival (TEFF), together with Ukrainian JC and Ukrainian and Jersey City artists, present The Power of One on Friday, April 8 at 7:30pm. The screening takes place at JCTC Studios (165 Newark Avenue, Jersey City). The Power of One is a program of 7 unique documentary shorts from Belarus, Chile, and the United States, with proceeds supporting Ukraine. 
Centenary University To Present Free Screening for Thomas Edison Film Festival


(HACKETTSTOWN, NJ) -- Centenary University will be hosting a free screening for the 41st Annual Thomas Edison Film Festival. This event will take place on Wednesday, April 6 at 6:30pm in the Kutz Black Box Theatre of the Lackland Performing Arts Center located on the campus of Centenary University at 715 Grand Avenue, Hackettstown, NJ. The Thomas Edison Film Festival is free to attend and open to the public. Seating is limited and on a first-come-first-served basis.

Akwaaba Gallery presents "Damage and Repair" - an exhibition of works by Heather Williams


(NEWARK, NJ) -- Akwaaba Gallery presents “Damage and Repair” - an exhibition of abstract paintings and sculptures by Heather Williams that represent themes of emotional damage and reconstruction. The exhibition runs from April 2 through May 7, 2022. Williams is a Jersey City-based multi-media artist who was born in St. Croix and raised in Brooklyn. Her work is inspired by introspection, her background in art therapy, and her African ancestors.
Rowan University Art Gallery presents Cultivated Space


(GLASSBORO, NJ) -- Rowan University Art Gallery presents Cultivated Space, a new group exhibition featuring work by Anonda Bell, Henry Bermudez, Linda Brenner, Fritz Dietel, Steven Donegan, Rachel Eng, Darla Jackson, Martha Jackson-Jarvis, Mi-Kyoung Lee, Michelle Marcuse, Sana Musasama, and Joanna Platt. The exhibition runs from April 11 through July 16, 2022.

Newark Wins National Environmental Award for Improvements with Water Delivery System


(NEWARK, NJ) -- On March 30, 2022, Mayor Ras J. Baraka announced that the City of Newark and its engineering partner CDM Smith have won the prestigious Water Data Prize for its Lead Line Replacement Program. The Environmental Policy Innovation Center (EPIC) awarded the prize based on Newark’s performance in “demonstrating how lead pipes across America can be replaced quickly and equitably to ensure access to safe, clean drinking water.”
