The Theater Project Holds 20th Annual Young Playwrights Competition Performance and Awards Ceremony on March 28th


Eleven very talented New Jersey high school students will be honored at The Theater Project's 20th Annual Young Playwrights Competition Performance and Awards Ceremony on Monday, March 28 at 7:30pm. At the virtual event, the four prize winners will see their work performed by the professional actors of The Theater Project; honorable mentions will be presented with citations and gift certificates. The event is free and open to the public, thanks to support from Investors Foundation and the New Jersey Theatre Alliance’s 25th Annual Stages Festival, which offers free and low-cost events throughout the state.
American Theater Group Receives Somerset County Arts Grant


(BASKING RIDGE, NJ) -- The American Theater Group (ATG), Somerset County’s newest professional theater company, was recently awarded a $37,640 grant from the Somerset County Cultural and Heritage Commission. ATG is currently in residence at the Mitchell and Ann Sieminski Theater at the Fellowship Cultural Arts Center in Basking Ridge.

Wharton Institute for the Performing Arts To Hold Auditions For New Community Theater


(BERKELEY HEIGHTS) -- The Wharton Institute for the Performing Arts has announced the launch of Wharton Community Players, its first-ever adult community theater program at the Wharton Performing Arts School. Part of the newly-minted division of study for adults, Lifelong Learning, the Wharton Community Players strives to foster a space of creativity, expression, and inclusion. Wharton’s black box theater is the perfect setting to explore the artistry of acting and experiment with performing in an intimate setting. The program is free but an audition is required to join the cast. Auditions will be held on Sunday, March 27 at 2:30pm and Monday, March 28 at 7:30pm. Vocalis Consort presents "Alive: Songs by Living Artists" on Saturday


(NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- Vocalis Consort presents Alive: Songs by Living Artists, a concert benefiting coLAB Arts on Saturday, March 19 at 5:00pm at the First Reformed Church of New Brunswick. Vocalis members Elise Brancheau, Bridgette Gan, Scott Johnson, Martin Néron, and Christopher Sierra perform songs tied together by one common theme: they were written and/or arranged by living artists.

New Jersey Symphony presents Beethoven’s complete piano concertos with Inon Barnatan


(NEWARK, NJ) -- Pianist Inon Barnatan returns to New Jersey Symphony stages to perform all five of Beethoven’s piano concertos across two programs and four performances in one weekend, March 31–April 3. Music Director Xian Zhang conducts.
Plainfield Symphony performs its 102nd Season Concert: “Fond Farewells” and shows support for Ukraine


(PLAINFIELD, NJ) -- On Saturday, March 19, the Plainfield Symphony Orchestra will present their next in-person as well as live-stream concert entitled “Fond Farewells” led by Maestro Charles Prince. The program begins at at 3:00pm and will feature symphonies by two musical giants, Haydn and Schubert as well as a long-awaited tribute to three musical colleagues they lost over the past two years.  The concert takes place at the Crescent Avenue Presbyterian Church (716 Watchung Avenue) in Plainfield, New Jersey.

Symphony In C To Hold 70th Anniversary Gala

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater Returns to NJPAC In May


(NEWARK, NJ) -- Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, America’s beloved cultural ambassador to the world, completes its coast-to-coast North American tour at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) Friday-Sunday, May 6-8, 2022. Ailey’s extraordinary dancers will move audiences in a program celebrating Artistic Director Robert Battle’s 10th anniversary, along with a diverse repertory of premieres, timeless favorites, and Ailey’s must-see American masterpiece Revelations. This marks the 23rd time Ailey graces the NJPAC stage; the last performance was in 2019 due to the 2020-21 pandemic shutdown.

Ocean County Library Barnegat Branch to Present Nature Art by Ray Haworth during April


(BARNEGAT, NJ) -- The Ocean County Library Barnegat Branch will exhibit Nature Impressions, a collection of paintings by local artist Ray Haworth, throughout the month of April. Mr. Haworth’s subject matter and painting styles are wide-ranging. “The goal,” he explained, “is to establish a sense of place, a special mood, or just a beautiful setting.”
"You Just Need to Create and Let the Work Have Its Own Life Afterward" – An Interview with Visual Artist Caren King Choi


New Jersey-native Caren King Choi is a visual artist of Chinese-Taiwanese descent and the mother of two young children. Her solo exhibition "Drawn In" – on view through April 1, 2022 at Gallery Aferro in Newark – showcases two different bodies of work. Meticulously crafted from thousands of tiny stickers, Choi’s Red Portraits depict friends and family members, mostly children. Meanwhile, her playful Mom Doodles illustrate the ups and downs of parenthood.

Nimbus Arts Center Hosts "International Women's Stories" on Friday


(JERSEY CITY, NJ) -- Jersey City's 2020-2022 Poet Laureate, Susan Justiniano | RescuePoetix joins with Ameerah Shabazz-Bilal, and Nimbus Arts Center for International Women's Stories to be held on Friday, March 18, 2022 from 7:00pm-10:00pm at Nimbus Arts Center, Jersey City, NJ. This is an in-person event. All guests must be masked and provide proof of vaccination or negative covid test within 72 hours. International Women's Stories celebrates with featured performers and an open mic segment – limited to 10 open mic participants. This is a ticketed event, and donations are appreciated! No one will be turned away: Pay what you want. 
RVCC Planetarium to Present Children’s Programs, Star Shows, Laser Concerts in April


(BRANCHBURG, NJ) -- The Raritan Valley Community College Planetarium in Branchburg will present in-person star shows and laser concerts in April, including a number of shows specially designed for children. Shows include Magic Tree House: Space Mission; Laser Kids laser concert; The Sky Above (sensory-friendly program); Astronomy Tonight; Pink Floyd shows for Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall; Big Astronomy; Classic Rock laser concert; Rockin' Rocket Ride; and SkyLights. The RVCC Planetarium will be closed on Saturday, April 16.
