(EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- “Lizzie,” a musical by Steven Cheslik-DeMeyer and Alan Stevens Hewitt, with lyrics by Cheslik-DeMeyer and Tim Maner, is making its New Jersey premiere at Playhouse 22 in East Brunswick from February 4-6. The musical is a punk-rock telling of the iconic moment in American history about the grizzly, still unsolved mystery of the murders of Andrew Jackson Borden and his wife, Abbie. Although acquitted at trial, Lizzie Borden remains the prime suspect in her father’s and stepmother’s murders to this day.
“Lizzie” has been performed all-around the world including runs in London and Denmark, as well as in many states. However, until now, it has not been produced in New Jersey – making Playhouse 22’s production a premiere. The musical has garnered numerous nominations and awards including a Barrymore Award for best musical, three Drama Desk Awards in New York and many more.
Playhouse 22’s production is directed by Khy Garner and stars Krystina Matos as “Lizzie Borden”, Taye McQueen as “Emma Borden”, Eden Mendez as “Alice Russell” and Mallory Wu as “Bridget Sullivan”.
Limited performances will be Friday, February 4 at 8:00pm; Saturday, February 5 at 3:00pm and 8:00pm; and Sunday, February 6 at 3:00pm. Tickets are $25 and must be purchased in advance at Playhouse22.org or at 732-254-3939. The show is intended for mature audiences only. Guests are reminded that Playhouse 22 is requiring all those who purchase tickets to review the theater’s COVID-19 guide prior to purchasing tickets including the wearing of masks at a Playhouse 22 performance.
