Ocean County Library Toms River Branch to Feature Kenneth Farr's "Thoughts Realized on Canvas"

(TOMS RIVER, NJ) -- "Thoughts Realized on Canvas," a collection of oil paintings by Ocean County artist Kenneth Farr, is on display in the Ocean County Library Toms River Branch through Thursday, February 29, 2024. The oils on canvas and canvas board will be featured in the first-floor McConnell Gallery.



The World's Tallest Moving Statue to be Created at American Dream

(EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ) -- The Giant Company Attractions Limited (Dublin, Ireland) and American Dream have announced a partnership to develop the world's first Giant visitor attraction called "The Giant" at American Dream. The anticipated opening is scheduled for January 2025.



Out of the Box Theatrics to present reading of "Trash"

(NEW YORK, NY) -- Out of the Box Theatrics has announced the first reading of the company's Building the Box series of new plays. OOTB will present a reading of Trash, a new play written by James Caverly and Andrew Morrill. The readings, which will be directed by Nathaniel P. Claridad, will be presented on Monday, February 5 at 7:00pm, Tuesday, February 6 at 1:00pm, and Thursday, February 8 at 7:00pm at 154 Christopher Street (formerly the New Ohio Theatre).



Valentine's Day and Star Shows, Laser Concerts, Black History Month Programs Set at RVCC Planetarium

(BRANCHBURG, NJ) -- The Raritan Valley Community College Planetarium in Branchburg will offer a wide variety of offerings in February, including Valentine's Day programs, laser concerts and star shows for all ages, and special activities and an exhibition in honor of Black History Month.








Hoboken Public Library Among Library of Congress Awardees for Projects Highlighting Uses of Digital Collections

On January 17, 2024, the Library of Congress announced that six awards totaling nearly $400,000 were awarded from the Connecting Communities Digital Initiative through a program available to Higher Education Institutions and Libraries, Archives and Museums. The program is part of the Library's Of the People: Widening the Path initiative with support from the Mellon Foundation. The 2024 awardees will use these funds to create projects that offer creative approaches to the Library's digital collections and center Black, Indigenous, and Hispanic or Latino studies. One of the recipients is the Hoboken Public Library for their project "The Puerto Rican Experience in Hoboken and America".



Riverside Gallery presents Intertwining

(HACKENSACK, NJ) -- Riverside Gallery presents Intertwining, a group exhibition of works by Erica Geralds, Gustavo Rojas, and Kang, Ung (Kang, Ungboo), from January 17th to February 1st, 2024. Intertwining is the process or the phenomenon of separate elements merging, joining, and weaving together to create a synthetic material or outcome.



PEAK Performances to present "Blind Injustice"

(MONTCLAIR, NJ) -- PEAK Performances at Montclair State University is producing two opera-in-concert performances of Blind Injustice, composed by Montclair State University College of the Arts faculty member Scott Davenport Richards (A Star Across the Ocean, Charlie Crosses the Nation) with a libretto by David Cote (Three Way, The Scarlet Ibis). The performances—featuring 12 principal singers, a 12-member orchestra, and a chorus of 30—explore the true stories of six people who were tried, unjustly convicted, imprisoned, and who ultimately freed themselves with the help of the Ohio Innocence Project (OIP).



Applications Being Accepted for Princeton Porchfest 2024

(PRINCETON, NJ) -- The Arts Council of Princeton (ACP) announced that the third annual Princeton Porchfest will take place on Saturday, April 27 from 12:00pm-6:00pm. Applications for performers and Porch Hosts are available now.



Stoutsburg Sourland African American Museum Secures National Grant for Preserving Black Churches

(SKILLMAN, NJ) --The National Trust for Historic Preservation has awarded the Stoutsburg Sourland African American Museum (SSAAM), Central New Jersey's first dedicated Black history museum, a $50,000 grant from the African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund's Preserving Black Churches project. This significant grant recognizes the museum's commitment to preserving and sharing the history and cultural heritage of African Americans in the Sourland region from the trans-Atlantic slave trade to the present day.

MPAC Announces Free Summer Concert Lineup for 2026

(MORRISTOWN, NJ) -- Mayo Performing Arts Center's Arts in the Community free summer concert schedule for 2026 has been announced. MPAC will present six free concerts between June and August. The lineup includes the return of three of their most popular events – Bollywood Dance Party, Country Line Dancing and Salsa at Sunset, as well as singer-songwriters, and more.

Classic American Tales' presents Tales at the Dormer House every Thursday

(CAPE MAY, NJ) -- From June 4 through October 15, 2026 (except for July 2), Classic American Tales (CAT) once more presents Tales at the Dormer House in which guests are treated to lemonade and tasty treats while listening to stories written by noteworthy authors, read by a variety of performers. The schedule is 4:00pm every Thursday at the historic Dormer House Bed and Breakfast (800 Columbia Avenue) in Cape May, NJ. Performances are on the front porch, weather permitting.

Princeton Summer Theater presents "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown"

(PRINCETON, NJ) -- Princeton Summer Theater's 2026 Children's Show is You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, which runs weekends from June 20 to August 1, 2026. A beloved musical since its premiere in 1967, Clark Gesner brings Charles M. Schulz's "PEANUTS" characters to the stage. The musical ventures through the highs and lows of young life, from baseball and homework to young love and friendship. With an empathetic and whimsical eye, You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown reminds us of the importance of connection and joy.

2026-27 Season Preview: Split Level Concerts at Jersey Shore Arts Center

(OCEAN GROVE, NJ) -- Split Level Concerts at the Jersey Shore Arts Center (JSAC) in Ocean Grove has announced the full concert lineup for its third season. All shows will take place beginning at 8:00pm in JSAC's Palaia Theater. The season lineup includes Willie Nile, John Gorka, Dan Bern, Catie Curtis and Band, Stephen Kellogg, Abbie Gardner, Heather Maloney and Band, and Kim Richey. As they have done in prior years, artists from the Asbury Park music scene will open many of the shows.

Frank Hanavan's Hoboken is wet. In his streetscapes, surfaces glisten. The sky is rarely glowering, but it does seem full; ready to have something to say, or wrapping up something that it is busy saying. The canopy of foliage that hangs over the streetcorners feels saturated with moisture. Even the shadows on the sidewalk are puddle blue. Businesses have their umbrellas open. A few people do, too.
