(PRINCETON, NJ) -- The Princeton Symphony Orchestra (PSO) has announced the opening of its all-new, 4-concert chamber music series at beautiful Trinity Church in Princeton. The series begins Thursday, October 10, 2024 with a concert featuring music composed for piano trio. The trio consists of Emma Richman, violin, Wangshu Xiang, cello, and Yoon Lee, piano. Additional concerts showcase a rare instrument of the viol family, a string trio, and string quartet, successively. General admission tickets are $45 per person, per concert with a 50% discount for children 5-17.

Regardless of culture, generation, or ethnicity, when it comes to “family,” we all share some universal memories of tears and joy condensed into a dinner gathering. The nostalgia is mixed with chaotic arguments, moms gossiping about who recently got married, shouting, “Who took my spatula?!” Kids run in and out, sneaking a few cookies and taking the kitchen heat and aroma out as they pass the poker table. Stories about domestic scenarios are never-ending classics, printed with certain generational marks, but the essence remains. In his novel Anna Karenina, Leo Tolstoy states, "All happy families are alike; each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way." Somehow, a hundred years later, this observation is proven true by a Mexican American family in A Little Family Drama. The exhibition sheds light on recent works by Latin American photographers based on the east coast. It is part of the university's Hispanic Heritage Month program.

Even those who don't know very much about visual art are familiar with the Cubist approach to the human body. Pablo Picasso liked to present a person from many angles at once, and compress three-dimensional form into a two-dimensional frame. No matter what step she's on, that nude descending a staircase comes at us all at once. We know we're looking at an individual person, even if it's never clear which of those fields of color represent the present moment and which are afterimages, projections, and vapor trails. Representing human beings like this guarantees that there’ll be distortions: facial features in strange places, unexpected angles, duplicates and odd subtractions, clashes between heads, necks, and torsos, the shuffling of expressions, and the surprise and disquiet that comes when an obviously human figure doesn't look much like a human at all.
