by Tris McCall
published 2025-08-27

I gave the unfriendlier characters points for creativity, linguistic invention, and persistence, even as I was running away from them.

The canopy of foliage that hangs over the streetcorners feels saturated with moisture. Even the shadows on the sidewalk are puddle blue. Businesses have their umbrellas open.
