(MANAQUAN, NJ) -- Algonquin Arts Theatre has announced the return of Algonquin’s Teen Night in collaboration with Project Write Now. Algonquin’s Teen Night is a program for student playwrights, future directors, designers and theatre enthusiasts. Students participating in the program will be instructed in creative writing with an emphasis on writing for theatre. Teen Night students will produce a journal of creative writing ideas, participate in feedback sessions and develop pieces for a showcase. The showcase will be presented before an audience and feature students’ original monologues, scenes or short plays.

(ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, NJ) -- Stone Church Players presented “Miracle on 34th Street” for their annual radio play December 3-4, 2022 at All Saints’ Memorial Church. Directed by Lindsay Abbot of Rumson and Caitlin Martin of Highlands, the event featured Musical Director Mike Kabash of Rumson on piano and the cast included 10 wonderfully talented actors who have all performed in past SCP productions. What started as the 20th-anniversary tour of Jill Scott’s chart-topping, genre-defining album, Who Is Scott?: Words and Sounds Vol I in 2020 ended prematurely due to the COVID-19 pandemic. (TOMS RIVER, NJ) -- Ring in the winter solstice with the close harmonies of the melodic duo Liberty Tree. “Sing Lustily of Winter: A Garland of Seasonal Songs” will be presented at the Ocean County Library Toms River Branch on Tuesday, December 20. Liberty Tree will perform historical winter-themed songs, from the popular to the obscure, in a capella arrangements and accompanied by guitar. Showtime is 6:30pm.

All shows will take place beginning at 8:00pm in JSAC's Palaia Theater. I was playing solo that night and they asked me to come back, so I thought I'd do something a bit different and so I decided to reform my backing band from 1988, The Lost Toy People. The last show we played together was with Depeche Mode and OMD at the Rose Bowl for the legendary 101 Concert and the other night in Phoenix was our first show in 38 years; how about that?"
Even those who don't know very much about visual art are familiar with the Cubist approach to the human body. Pablo Picasso liked to present a person from many angles at once, and compress three-dimensional form into a two-dimensional frame. No matter what step she's on, that nude descending a staircase comes at us all at once. We know we're looking at an individual person, even if it's never clear which of those fields of color represent the present moment and which are afterimages, projections, and vapor trails. Representing human beings like this guarantees that there’ll be distortions: facial features in strange places, unexpected angles, duplicates and odd subtractions, clashes between heads, necks, and torsos, the shuffling of expressions, and the surprise and disquiet that comes when an obviously human figure doesn't look much like a human at all.
