(NEWARK, NJ) -- The New York Red Bulls, Newark Arts, Greater Newark Convention and Visitors Bureau, and Ironbound Business Improvement District (IBID) have announced the completion of a new public artwork, Unity Gol, by Newark artist Diegumberrto. The mural is located at 529-531 Market St., a site commonly crossed when local fans journey from Newark, over the Jackson Street Bridge to a match at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, NJ. An unveiling for the artwork will take place on Tuesday, December 20th at 3:00pm.

(MILLVILLE, NJ) -- Triple Threat Workshop presents four performances of Into the Woods at the Levoy Theatre from January 13-15, 2023. Into the Woods follows a host of fairytale characters pursuing their happily ever after: A Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King’s Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch’s curse, the two set off on a journey to break the enchantment. Each must learn the responsibility of wishes that come true, the consequences of choices made in each passing moment, and ultimately the stories we choose to tell our children.
(NEW YORK, NY) -- Joe’s Pub presents Sunny Jain’s Love Force, a new theatrical piece in development and inspired by Mohandas Gandhi’s concept of satyagraha, on Saturday, January 14 at 9:30pm. Part of New York Voices, the artist commissioning program at Joe’s Pub, this show will be an intimate evening centering on the Punjabi dhol drum, blurring the lines of performer and audience in order to create a collective effervescence. Drawing from cultural tradition and rituals, the performance highlights the inequities of current social structures.

Rochelle Calhoun announced on December 19, 2022 that the McCarter Board’s Executive Committee has voted to hire veteran arts leader Susie Medak to fill the role of Interim Managing Director effective immediately. The show features more than 30 of Hank’s hits and rarities, including “Cold, Cold Heart,” “Hey, Good Lookin’,” “Your Cheatin’ Heart,” and many others, performed live by Dala Records recording aritsts The Lonesome Prairie Dogs. All shows will take place beginning at 8:00pm in JSAC's Palaia Theater. I was playing solo that night and they asked me to come back, so I thought I'd do something a bit different and so I decided to reform my backing band from 1988, The Lost Toy People. The last show we played together was with Depeche Mode and OMD at the Rose Bowl for the legendary 101 Concert and the other night in Phoenix was our first show in 38 years; how about that?"
Even those who don't know very much about visual art are familiar with the Cubist approach to the human body. Pablo Picasso liked to present a person from many angles at once, and compress three-dimensional form into a two-dimensional frame. No matter what step she's on, that nude descending a staircase comes at us all at once. We know we're looking at an individual person, even if it's never clear which of those fields of color represent the present moment and which are afterimages, projections, and vapor trails. Representing human beings like this guarantees that there’ll be distortions: facial features in strange places, unexpected angles, duplicates and odd subtractions, clashes between heads, necks, and torsos, the shuffling of expressions, and the surprise and disquiet that comes when an obviously human figure doesn't look much like a human at all.
