An American in Provence's Jamie Beck to Appear in Ocean County Library's Virtual Author Talk Series

(TOMS RIVER, NJ) -- Author-photographer Jamie Beck, whose extended hiatus in France produced the New York Times best-seller An American in Provence, will appear in the Ocean County Library's Virtual Author Talk series on Thursday, June 15, 2023. The event begins at 2:00pm.



NJ Jazz Society Announces 2023 Scholarship Winners

The winners of the New Jersey Jazz Society's 2023 Juried Scholarship Competition are: Trombonist Richard LaRouech, Buffalo, NY, William Paterson University Jazz Studies Program ($1,000 prize for Performance); Trumpeter Banks Sapnar, Haddonfield, NJ, Temple University Boyer College of Music and Dance, Jazz Studies. ($1,000 prize for Composition); Saxophonist Joseph Foglia of Raleigh, NC, William Paterson University Jazz Studies Program ($500 prize for Performance); and Trumpeter Grace Fox of Marlton, NJ, Manhattan School of Music ($500 prize for Composition).



Nils Lofgren Releases "Nothin's Easy (For Amy)"

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame E Street Band member, Crazy Horse member and solo artist Nils Lofgren has released a new song "Nothin's Easy (For Amy)" featuring vocals from Neil Young. The song is a loving tribute to his wife Amy Aiello Lofgren, who co-produced his new album Mountains that will be released on July 21. Mountains is now available for pre-order.

Centenary Stage Company announces casts for "Rock of Ages" and "Seussical, the Musical"

(MIDDLETOWN, NJ) -- The Middletown Arts Center presents August Wilson's Jitney, produced by the Dunbar Repertory Company and directed by Darrell Lawrence Willis, Sr., over two weekends, June 2-4 and 9-11. Set in the early 1970s, this richly textured play follows a group of men trying to eke out a living by driving unlicensed cabs, or jitneys, in the black neighborhood of Pittsburgh's Hill District. Photographer John Posada was at a rehearsal to take photos. Note: these photos are from a rehearsal where the actors were not wearing costumes; it was not on a designed set; and did not have stage lighting.

Bordentown Regional High School senior Ryan Kaufman Wins 2023 Casey Feldman Foundation Scholarship

(BORDENTOWN, NJ) -- Bordentown Regional High School senior Ryan Kaufman has been awarded the 2023 Casey Feldman Foundation Scholarship. The award was presented at the Greater Philadelphia Cappie Award Gala, which was held at Cardinal O’Hara High School in Pennsylvania on Sunday, May 21. Members of the cast, crew and orchestra of Bordentown Regional High School's recent production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat attended the Gala, which honored high school theatre productions from the 2022-2023 season.

PBS' Independent Lens Launches 20th Season of Free Pop-Up Screening Series in Teaneck and Nationwide

(TEANECK, NJ) -- The award-winning PBS documentary series, INDEPENDENT LENS, presents the launch of the upcoming season of Indie Lens Pop-Up in partnership with the Teaneck International Film Festival and the Puffin Cultural Forum. The season kicks-off on February 4, 2026 with The Librarians and continues through May. The series is free for all but sign up is required.

State Theatre New Jersey presents The Sound Studio Series 2026

The second episode of Lighty’s Corner is live! This is a bi-weekly recorded radio show presenting new rock music from around the globe. Each of the 15 new tracks played were received via email within the last two weeks - a practice I hope to continue each time.




"She's Like the Wind"

The first thing you'll see upon entering the gallery at Deep Space (77 Cornelison St.) is the shadow-outline of a woman's leg. There it is, on a chartreuse background, sticking straight up in the air with a curvaceous bare foot inches from the ceiling. That's all of the subject of "Lemon Lime Toe of God" that the oil painter Delilah Ray Miske is willing to show us. The rest of the body, she implies, is splayed out on a bed. We know it's summer because the window is closed and the air conditioner is plugged in. There's a pretty good chance that the possessor of the leg is undressed. In one hand, she holds a cellphone, and she might be broadcasting something. On the wall, a small whip-like broomstick hangs. It could be the ride of a tiny witch. It could be the professional tool of a dominatrix.
