(PRINCETON, NJ) --  The Youth Orchestra of Central Jersey (YOCJ) and the Princeton Symphony Orchestra (PSO) have announced a new partnership to advance excellence in orchestral performance and foster a greater connection between Central Jersey’s young musicians and their professional counterparts. Integral to the partnership, the PSO is expanding its assistant conductor position to include leadership of the youth orchestra’s Symphonic Orchestra. YOCJ’s beloved Symphonic Director John Enz is retiring after 35 years and the current PSO assistant conductor, Nell Flanders, will take over the baton with immediate effect. The partnership is the formalization of an ongoing relationship established through the PSO’s BRAVO! Education Program which encourages young musicians and their families to be exposed to extensive performance repertoire and be inspired by professional artists.... READ ON

Commencing at midnight August 27th and concluding at midnight September 4th, WKCR-FM (89.9 FM, will dedicate all programming to celebrations of the legacies and influences of two of jazz’s central figures: Charlie Parker (born 8/29/20, died 3/12/55) and Lester Young (born 8/27/09, died 3/15/59). For more than four decades, the station has noted their birthday anniversaries with a three-day marathon broadcast. Because August 29, 2020 marks the centennial of Parker’s birth, WKCR will expand this year’s celebration into an eight-day marathon; its central component will be the Charlie Parker Centennial Festival.... The Cyrkle is a 60s-era rock band which is well-known for their hits, “Red Rubber Ball” and “Turn Down Day.” Founded by lead singer/guitarist Don Dannemann, the band toured with The Beatles, opening for them at the Fab Four’s final show at Candlestick Park in 1966. After breaking up, The Cyrkle reunited nearly a half-century later with Dannemann at the helm, performing concerts around the country, including their first revival show at The Strand Theater in Lakewood, NJ.... Diane Moser, a mainstay of the tri-state jazz community, has been hospitalized since June 30 following spinal surgery to repair compression fractures in three vertebrae.  The Montclair-based pianist, composer, bandleader and teacher was scheduled to be released from the hospital on August 7. However, it’s going to be a while before Diane is back on her feet. ... READ ON

"We have everybody involved," said Brian Erick with a laugh as he elaborated on his latest endeavor, "Demos For A Difference." "It's a fundraising compilation and it benefits the NAACP Legal Defense Fund; we have just a shade over 180 artists involved. There are plenty of people from our area; Dave Vargo, Renee from Lowlight, Tara Dente, Mark Tappan, Bobby Mahoney are all involved and that's just off the top of my head. We have artists from New York City, from across our country, we have a couple from Europe and I say artists because it's not just musicians.
