Honest and Emotional Documentary The Bond That Broke Screens at the New Jersey Film Festival!

by Penelope de la Cruz
published 2026-09-15

Some of the most difficult things passed down through families are the ones rarely spoken about. In The Bond That Broke, director Jeff Mizushima explores this through mother and daughter Kathi Ross-Nash and Dr. Zoe Ross-Nash, whose lives have both been shaped by eating disorders in very different ways. Kathi struggled with bulimia for decades, while Zoe became a clinical psychologist largely because of what she learned about her mother’s experience with an eating disorder. Their stories make them feel like two sides of the same coin.

Film Review - "The Runner"

by Eric Hillis, TheMovieWaffler.com
published 2026-09-13

Kevin Macdonald's The Runner is the latest in a wave of thrillers in which a hapless protagonist is forced to become an accomplice to a crime, receiving orders from an anonymous villain over the phone. The formula worked quite well in Drop and Carry-On, but crucially, those movies were anchored by lead turns from capable actors in Meghann Fahy and Taron Egerton. Expecting a performer as limited as Gal Gadot to carry a movie on her own is asking for trouble, especially when the script is as shoddy as the one provided here by screenwriter Mark Gibson.

Rock On! This Week's Sound Bites... 09/17/2026

"Yes, I'm in Montclair," said the incredible Lily Vakili as she talked about her two recent releases, her music and upcoming tour which kicks off on September 26 in Blairstown, NJ to support both. "Actually, "Oceans of Kansas" came out already; I'm still very much supporting and promoting that and it came out last year, that was a full LP and then this year, I released a live in studio EP called "Live Wire."

"Torn"

A crumpled-up piece of paper and a mangled sheet of metal have certain visual similarities. In both cases, rough circumstances have given strange new facets to machine-flattened material. That which was once uniform and controlled has been shot through with irregularity. It feels like a metaphor for life. A curator could put both pieces behind a vitrine and call that an exhibition.
