WFMU and Montclair Film present a Screening of "This Much I Know To Be True"

originally published: 04/18/2022

(MONTCLAIR, NJ) -- On May 11th at 7:00pm, WFMU and Montclair Film present a screening of This Much I Know To Be True. Shot on location in London & Brighton, Andrew Dominik’s new feature documentary captures Nick Cave and Warren Ellis’ exceptional creative relationship as they bring to life the songs from their last two studio albums, Ghosteen (Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds) and Carnage (Nick Cave & Warren Ellis).

In this document of their first ever performances of these albums, filmed in spring 2021 ahead of their UK tour, we see the two, accompanied by singers and string quartet, as they nurture each song into existence. The film features a special appearance by close friend and long-term collaborator, Marianne Faithfull.

Shot in colour by Andrew Dominik and with cinematography by Robbie Ryan, This Much I Know To Be True is a companion piece to Dominik’s 2016 film One More Time With Feeling. It reaches into the deep friendship and personal relationship between Nick Cave and Warren Ellis, something glimpsed in the 2014 Cave pseudo-documentary, 20,000 Days On Earth. The film will prove to be another significant moment in the journeys of Nick Cave and Warren Ellis, capturing the mood and spirit of the pair as they move through a new, optimistic phase.

Presented in partnership with Montclair Film, partial proceeds to benefit WFMU.  Tickets are available for purchase online.  The film will only be screened one time - May 11th at 7:00pm.

The Clairidge is located at 486 Bloomfield Avenue in Montclair, New Jersey. Masking is strongly encouraged at all screenings at The Clairidge when not eating or drinking. Please visit this page for our full set of COVID-19 safety protocols.

Opened in 1922, the historic Clairidge began life as a single screen movie palace serving Montclair, NJ and film lovers from all over the tri-state area. Throughout the 20th century, The Clairidge was synonymous with an exceptional moviegoing experience for patrons, with a large screen (including years as one of NJ’s only Cinerama theaters) and ample seating.

As moviegoing trends changed and the film exhibition business shifted to meet patron demand, The Clairidge changed ownership frequently, moving to a three screen multiplex cinema in 1983, followed by an expansion to six screens in 1997, and a focus on independent, documentary, and foreign language films.

In June of 2021, after over a year of being closed, Montclair Film signed an agreement to take over the operation of The Clairidge and began remodeling the space, retaining the six theaters and a focus on the best in independent, documentary, foreign language, and restorations that patrons have come to expect from The Clairidge, and Montclair Film is committed to providing our patrons with an exceptional moviegoing experience.

Montclair Film opened The Clairidge again on October 22, 2021 for the 10th annual Montclair Film Festival, and began year-round film exhibition on Thursday, November 4, 2021. Montclair Film’s non-profit status is extended to its operation of The Clairidge, allowing the public to donate to become members of Montclair Film and receive year-round ticketing discounts, early access to tickets to the Montclair Film Festival, special member preview events and more.
