(NEWARK, NJ) – Greater Newark community members are invited to step out of the frigid winter cold weather and warm up with a cup of hot cocoa and delectable treats at United Community Corporation’s (UCC) "Cookies, Coats & Cocoa" distribution event this month. The event, which will be held Wednesday, January 25 at the West Side Park Community Center in Newark, is aimed to provide local families and community members with free winter coats and groceries. The event will begin at 2:00pm.
Although the event will have hot drinks and sweet treats on hand for people to enjoy, it is aimed to serve a higher purpose by giving back. The event will offer COVID-19 vaccinations and opportunities for community members to learn about UCC’s outreach services. Local agencies will also be tabling free resources for the community.
“United Community Corporation Cookies, Coats, and Cocoa event is a great way to give back to the community. Due to inflation, it has become challenging to purchase day-to-day necessities,” UCC Youth, Family and Senior Services Director Yolanda Loney said. “Therefore, providing free coats for the entire family relieves the burden of purchasing winter items. This event is also an excellent opportunity to come out and get your COVID vaccination.”
The event was made possible through various partners including Amerigroup, the Newark Department of Health and Newark Community Health Center. Coats were generously donated by JerseyCares, Father Gulya and Walmart. The hot cocoa was provided by Starbucks, and Newark Centers of Hope provided cookies. North Jersey Community Research Initiative will provide COVID vaccinations.
Following the Cookies, Coats & Cocoa event on Wednesday, UCC will also host a Diaper Day distribution on Friday, January 27. The event, which will take place at West Side Park Community Center and begin at 1:00pm, will have adult and children diapers available, at no cost, while supplies last.
