(ASBURY PARK, NJ) -- The ShowRoom Cinema will celebrate Black History Month with a one night only screening of The Color Purple on Thursday, February 2 at 7:00pm. The film was selected by Asbury Park Councilmember Yvonne Clayton, who will introduce it that evening.
Based on Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Prize winning novel, this 1985 classic tracks the life of a Black Southern woman, struggling to find her identity after suffering four decades of abuse from her father and others. The film was directed by Steven Spielberg and stars Whoopi Goldberg, Danny Glover, Oprah Winfrey and Margaret Avery.
The Color Purple was nominated for 11 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Actress in a Leading Role (Whoopi Goldberg), Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Margaret Avery and Oprah Winfrey).
