(PRINCETON, NJ) -- The Princeton Folk Music Society presents Jeff Warner in an evening of traditional American folksong on Friday, December 15, 2023 at Christ Congregation Church (50 Walnut Lane) in Princeton, NJ. Showtime is 8:00pm.

Jeff is among the nation’s foremost performer/interpreters of traditional music. His songs connect 21st century audiences with the everyday lives and artistry of 19th century Americans, bringing us "the latest news from the distant past."

He is the son of eminent folk song collectors Frank and Anne Warner, and he grew up listening to the songs and stories of the traditional singers his parents met during their collecting trips through rural America. He accompanied them on their later field trips and is the editor of his mother’s book, Traditional American Folk Songs from the Anne and Frank Warner Collection. He plays concertina, banjo, guitar, and several “pocket” instruments, including bones and spoons.

Tickets at the door: $25 ($20 members, $10 students 12 - 22, $5 children 11 and under). Ample free parking. For more information: www.princetonfolk.org.

“Providing more than just rich entertainment, Jeff will leave you with a deeper appreciation of the land you live in.” – Caffé Lena, Saratoga, NY.

“The scion of one of the nation’s most eminent families of folksong collectors, he represents a tradition that is fundamentally unbroken since preindustrial times.” – Stuart Frank, Senior Curator, New Bedford Whaling Museum

“Jeff is my nominee for the best folk singer in America. He has a mischievous sense of humor, he plays most any instrument you can name, and his repertoire is encyclopedic, ranging from black gospel to shanties to music hall. In a time when most folk singers rarely sing a folk song, Warner sings, almost entirely, old songs.” – Bob Bossin (founder of the Canadian folk group "Stringband")

“Jeff’s one of the most welcome of the fairly frequent visitors to these shores from the U.S., and his gigs are always eagerly awaited and supported by those in the know. Quite simply, he’s one of the most charismatic, enthusiastic and genuinely versatile performers on the whole scene, with a warm and approachable personality to match his encyclopedic knowledge of traditional song.” – David Kidman, www.netrhythms.co.uk/

The Princeton Folk Music Society has encouraged the growth of folk music in central New Jersey for over 58 years. They are continuing to offer live-stream viewing of performances when possible and have chosen to make the stream available under the honor system of folk music. If you watch the stream live or delayed, we and the artist would greatly appreciate you utilizing the “tip jar” to make a contribution in lieu of in-person concert tickets. They recognize that not everyone can make it to the venue for the show, so they're delighted to be able to present this as an option to participate in the concert.
