The Levoy Theatre presents Cut: International Short Film Festival

originally published: 08/25/2024

(MILLVILLE, NJ) -- The Levoy Theatre presents Cut: International Short Film Festival on September 20-21, 2024. It is a festival of short films for quick minds.

Storytelling is an art form as old as time. Even before we painted pictures on the walls of caves, we sat around the campfire and told stories. The ones who were able to captivate us with a little drama, pathos, comedy and insight, were the ones we relied on to keep our histories and explain our world.

Filmmaking is an advanced form of storytelling where you take sight and sound, and project a world onto a screen that doesn’t exist anywhere else. The short film is a glimpse into that world and not the entire telling, but a mere slice of it.

CUT International Short Film Festival aims to become the premier festival in New Jersey for short form films. Located in a colonial-era enclave established in the early part of the 18th century, the City of Millville hosts a proper main drag known as High Street. Featuring a beautifully restored theater, bars, restaurants, coffee shops, art galleries and barber shops, Millville harkens back to different time in the

American experience.

The festival takes place Friday, September 20th at 8:00pm and Saturday, September 21st starting at 11:00am. Tickets range from $15-$20 (plus fees) and are available for purchase online.  The Levoy Theatre is located at 126-130 N. High Street in Millville, New Jersey.

CUT was founded to celebrate storytelling in the medium of motion pictures but limited to short stories. The short film, like the documentary, has become a great way for a larger group of people to tell their stories. Not reliant on huge budgets, or massive crews, a small group of talented creatives can craſt a tale of resonance and authenticity. Their goal is to celebrate those stories and give them a venue to shine.

The Levoy Theatre Preservation Society is a not-for-profit organization committed to reviving and continued operation of Millville’s century old Levoy Theatre as a performing, screen arts and educational center serving Southern New Jersey and surrounding areas. Their mission is to meet and exceed the needs of an active and vibrant arts community through state-of-the-art technology, historic interpretation, culturally diverse programming and performing arts education for all ages and abilities.

The mission of the Levoy is to serve as an economic, educational, cultural and entertainment catalyst for the people of Millville and greater South Jersey. Their mission encourages people of all economic levels to celebrate the rich history of the building, attend a diverse mix of entertainment and educational programs and grow or enhance an appreciation of the performing arts, by creating opportunity for cultural enrichment. Their mission includes maintenance of this world-class venue to enhance enjoyment of its use, contribute to the cultural and economic vitality of the community and the region, and honor the rich history of the Levoy brings to the City of Millville.

Authentically

Authentically beautiful feature Supporting Actresses screens at the 2025 New Jersey International Film Festival on June 7!

Supporting Actresses (Secundarias) is bound to be a favorite in the 2025 New Jersey International Film Festival. Everything in this beautifully executed film directed by Arturo Dueñas, is centered around a play (Cartas al Emperador, “Letters to the Emperor”) and its ensemble’s representation of it. The film title references the marginality of our main characters who are secondary actresses inside the play. The production of Cartas al Emperador positions each woman in support of the king’s story as the tangential, dramatic or comedic foil to the straight-man; all of them merely women who marked his life by visiting on his deathbed.
