South Street Players to Hold Auditions for "God of Carnage"

originally published: 11/20/2022

(SPRING LAKE, NJ) -- South Street Players will hold auditions for "God of Carnage" by Yasmina Reza (translation by Christopher Hampton) at Wesley Hall in Spring Lake. Auditions take place Thursday, December 1st at 6:30pm and Sunday, December 4th at 2:00pm.

The play is about two sets of parents; the son of one couple has hurt the son of the other couple at a public park. The parents meet to discuss the matter in a civilized manner. However, as the evening goes on, the parents become increasingly childish and the meeting devolves into chaos.

Originally written in French, the play was translated into English by translator Christopher Hampton, and has enjoyed acclaim in productions in both London and New York.  It won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Comedy in 2009 for its London production and won Tony Awards for Best Play, Best Actress in a Play (Marcia Gay Harden), and Best Director of a Play (Matthew Warchus) for its New York production.  That production also had Tony nominations for Best Actor in a Play (Jeff Daniels and James Gandolfini), and Best Actress in a Play (Hope Davis).

Performance Dates are Fridays: February 17 & 24 at 8:00pm; Saturdays: February 18 & 25 at 8:00pm; and Sundays: February 19 & 26 at 2:00pm.

Wesley Hall is located at the corner of 4th and Mercer Avenue Streets in Spring Lake, New Jersey.
