Remember Jones and Basie Cinemas to present lost Meat Loaf film, "Dead Ringer"

originally published: 04/25/2023

(RED BANK, NJ) -- Basie Cinemas and Remember Jones Presents bring a very special event and one night only screening of the lost Meat Loaf film Dead Ringer on Saturday, May 27th at 7:00pm. This screening will be hosted by renowned musician Remember Jones, in anticipation of his acclaimed Bat Out of Hell Live event coming to the Hackensack Meridian Health Theatre at Count Basie Center on June 2nd and Resorts Casino as part of North 2 Shore Festival on June 10th.

Dead Ringer is a part fiction, part documentary film made to promote the 1981 album by Meat Loaf to follow up the critically acclaimed and highly successful 1977 release Bat Out of Hell. Directed by Allan Nicholls, with appearances by Cher and Josh Mostel among others, the film follows Meat Loaf under pressure from his recent successes and launching a new tour and album. Meanwhile, an identical twin to the rock star, a man named Marvin who loves to sing Meat Loaf’s songs, is on his own journey.

Through legal battles with Meat Loaf, Jim Steinman, and record labels at the time, the film was confiscated during an initial screening, never receiving an official release. It has only been screened several times and has never been seen publicly until now. Director Allan Nicholls (Broadway, film, television actor and director) will bring his own, newly digitized copy for this special event, and will join Remember Jones at the screening for a special Q&A. Proceeds from this event will support Basie's Forever For Everyone Endowment Scholarship program.

Tickets for the film are very limited and available for purchase online. Tickets are $25. Tickets for both Bat Out of Hell LIVE shows are available for purchase here.

Remember Jones, calling Asbury Park home, is a nationally acclaimed director/producer, a one-of-kind soul/pop singer, and bombastic entertainer who has shared stages with notable acts such as Bruce Springsteen, George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, Ronnie Spector & The Ronettes, Darlene Love, Buster Poindexter, Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes, Low Cut Connie, and more.
