Playhouse 22 presents Award-Winning Musical, 'Memphis'

(EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- Playhouse 22's 65th season closes this month with the musical Memphis which runs from June 7-23, 2024. From the underground dance clubs of 1950’s Memphis, Tennessee, this is a Tony and Olivier Award-winning musical that bursts off the stage with explosive dancing, irresistible songs and a thrilling tale of fame and forbidden love.

Inspired by actual events, the show is about a white radio DJ who wants to change the world and a black club singer who is ready for her big break. Winner of four 2010 Tony Awards including Best Musical and two 2015 Olivier Awards.

Letitia D. Townes directs Playhouse 22’s production, with music direction by Khy Garner and choreography by Q.

The show runs June 7-23, 2024 with performances on Friday and Saturday evenings at 8:00pm and Sunday matinees at 2:00pm.  Due to demand, an additional matinee performance has been added on June 22 at 2:00pm.   Tickets are $24/adults and $22/seniors and students, and they must be purchased at Playhouse22.org or over the phone at 732-254-3939.

The theater is conveniently located at the Elliott Taubenslag Theater at the East Brunswick Community Arts Center, 721 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick.

Playhouse 22 is an all-volunteer run community theater located in Central Jersey. They present a series of special events throughout the year, include the "Third Thursday Play Reading" series with allows local playwrights to present their works in front a live audience -- often for the first time.  Other special events include live music concerts, two day Theater Festivals, and events for children. 

For children, Playhouse 22's Summer Theater Experience is an unique opportunity for children from 7-13 to learn the world of theater from performing to dancing to designing lights and set pieces.  And in addition, Playhouse 22 partners with Creative Communicators, a local organization that provides theater classes for children with special needs.

Grant funding has been provided by the Middlesex County Board of County Commissioners through a grant award from the Middlesex County Cultural and Arts Trust Fund.

(CHATHAM, NJ) -- The Chatham Community Players will open their 104th season with the romantic comedy, Stage Kiss by Sarah Ruhl from October 10 – October 25, 2025 at The Chatham Playhouse. Art imitates Life. Life imitates Art. When two actors with a passionate history are thrown together as romantic leads in a forgotten 1930s melodrama, they quickly lose touch with reality as the lines between offstage and onstage begin to blur.

Thinkery & Verse reimagine "The Tragedy of Macbeth" in Colonial Middlesex County

(NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- Thinkery & Verse returns to the Church of St. John the Evangelist in New Brunswick with the World Premiere of The Tragedy of Macbeth, adapted by Dr. J.M. Meyer and Karen Eliza Alvarado and directed by Dr. J.M. Meyer. The production has a three-week limited engagement at the Assembly Hall at the Church of Saint John the Evangelist from October 8-25, 2025.
